Low dose salvia trip possible?

My girlfriend picked up some 10x today after she heard me discussing my friend's salvia trip and plopped it on my desk. I don't really want to have a full blown salvia trip just yet but I am genuinely curious, so I was wondering would it be possible to pack a little in a bowl with some bud and have some minor hallucinations? If so how much should I pack?

I'm a pretty experienced LSD user but from what I've read (trip reports) and heard the experience is quite different as you dissolve into another world.

Yes, it is possible to have a lower-dose trip, but I don't find it very satisfying and it certainly does not come anywhere near the intensity of a breakthrough experience.

Yes it's possible to have a low-dose Salvia trip. In my opinion the idea Salvia is this all-or-nothing thing is a myth. Salvia is like any other drug in that you can take a lot or a little and have the corresponding effects. I think it's wise to start out small and slowly ramp it up as seems appropriate, the same way you would with any drug.
I would just start with a little pinch and see how it goes, then take less or the same amount or more as seems appropriate.

i do not find low dose salvia trips in any way pleasant or useful. plus i got a flashback from a low dose trip once (2 days afterwards; never with breakthrough trips). in comarison to low dose trips breakthrough trips are at least quite fascinating. i still don't want to touch that stuff again…

Hmm, a low dose of salvia often feels very unpleasant to me. I would rather complete the journey so to speak.

Exactly. I find threshold doses, where the conscious mind interferes, to be hard, the body load is tough, your mind has a hard time "letting go" and that is where problems arise....you realize you smoked salvia, and that alone influences your trip.....a true breakthrough, you have no idea it's not real or that you even smoked salvia.....

A "breakthrough" level 5 salvia trip, cannot even remotely be compared to a level 4 or less trip.

It will all depend on how you find it, which is rather tautologous, but that's just the way things seem to be with Salvia (and probably other psychs. to a lesser extent IMHO).

There seems to be little middle ground with Salvia. Folks either like it or find difficult to work with. If you take a little and like it, then I imagine you will be able to ramp up to a breakthrough without much difficulty. If you find it unpleasant, it will be hard to push yourself up as it can have quite an off-putting feel to it. You would then probably need to take a breakthough dose and hope for the best, but might find the apprehension works against letting go and relaxing into it.

FWIW, a low dose for me is absolutely like being "invited" by an invisble 'tractor beam' to another, uncomfortable and sinister reality. Much worrying and struggling to stay out.

Weirdest experience of my long and varied life!

For me salvia has become less and less enjoyable every time I've done it, although I used to love it.

I haven't done it in some time now, but I'd guess high dose trips could still be fun. Recently whenever I've tried medium-low doses it's felt quite unpleasant, like I'm kind of on edge and just waiting for it to end. Although, come to think of it, this could well be setting dependant, as I've recently been doing salvia in settings which were not perhaps as comfortable as when I first did it.

BUT my first few experiences with salvia were very intense, although I have friends who've started off with a very low dose, and then decided they didn't like it very much and didn't want to do it again.

So my advice to you would be - start high.

Or at least, if you start low, don't be discouraged from trying higher doses.

I have never found anything worthwhile in low salvia doses just unpleasantness. Paranoia, strange voices, and basically feeling uncomfortable is all I ever got out of low doses.

if your going to try salvia... don't even bother with low dose.. in alot of ways its easier on you if you just go for it and break through...

my advice is have at least 1 other person around that you trust, and have them sitting quietly in the corner.... low lighting in the room... just take a large hit, lay back, relax, and wait for reality to disolve.... my first saliva trip i broke through, i wanted to do it again after the first one, but the dose was smaller... everything remained normal until i laid back and closed my eyes... lo and behold, i don't see blackness i see an infinitely continuing chain of triangles made of candy canes and people... the first trip i lost all visual perception of the room... and i was in front of a huge circus tent. the first one was more pleasant, it is a radical change in perception, but by that point you don't have much of a sense of self anyways... without a sense of self, to me at least there is no sense of anything like fear, everything is just what it is...

one of my friends couldn't hold enough of the smoke in long enough to get a decent trip, he was disappointed...

the other guy loved it just as much, if not more than me... he saw a couple snowball people with white gloves in the light fixture, and he claimed they were coming over for dinner...

it is a truly intense experience, don't be scared of salvia. i sat there with the bowl in my mouth and lighter in hand knowing that it was going to be one hell of a ride that i most likely wasn't going to enjoy... i took the hit, laid back, and fell into salvia land for about 3 minutes... came back, and was amazed at its effects... i was more disturbed at the fact you go from baseline to another world in 40 seconds.... and then your back where you started in a couple more...

My very first salvia experience was at a fairly low dosage. I didn't have a breakthrough experience, but I was left with this spirtual glow afterward. At that time in my life, I was experiencing a lot of melancholy, and the experience, although not anywhere near as intense as my later trips would be, was incredibly beneficial. I think I needed that more than I needed a breakthrough.

Salvia is nothing like LSD. The only thing I've ever tried that has any similarities is a high I.M. dose of ketamine.

Glad to see a rare discussion on salvia...I have been entranced a bit by this plant. Like some of you have noted, the complete and utter replacement of reality that destroys your ego and rips you from this world, and that world seems so real, is the thing that keeps me coming back to salvia. Every trip has been different! I have not had a "bad trip" in the sense of actually being scared. But emotion is not totally lacking either, as one level 5 I did while fairly alcohol influenced, had me sobbing and crying in a deep trip in which my kids and wife were there in presence with me, as we were all bodiless, just a Mind!

Again, I reiterate that the difference between a sub-breakthrough dose and a level 5 session is almost like two different plants!!!! To truly comprehend the power of this, you simply HAVE to feel a level 5, everything lower is annoyance and anxiety.

I have to agree with this. If you smoke a low dose, your conciousness knows that you have smoked Salvia and can then start to try and fight the effects. I personally would either try the 'Quid Method' (orally) or go all out and smoke a full amount and let your conciousness go. You will forget that you have smoked it and you can fully take in the experience.

Can I just ask what rating system this is and where I can read more about it? I have seen a few people using it and am not familiar with it myself. I have usually stuck to the Shulgin Scale but find that it can't always cover all aspects of a psychedelic experience.

I've been trying to breakthrough with salvia before. Failing is frustrating, partly because I really wanted to break through. I know you're not fussed at this stage.

But the other reeason it was frustrating was because salvia at a low dose feels (at least to me) pretty horrible, dizzy, slightly confusing, tingly (in a horrible way), and pointless.

i smoke bowls of dropped leaves from my plants a lot, just a sort of 'psychedelic
altered thought process and music enhancement.. euphoria

and there's some distinct head high feel for me, more pronounced when combined with mushrooms etc

I've done it, it was unpleasent. Lots of terror, sorrow, regret, etc. Some uncomfortable sensations, and this horrible in-between feeling. I didn't really like it, if I do it again I will be going to space.

If i smoke to little i can still see clearly but i just laugh, it feels like im on the come up but never get there.

Yes it is possible and can definitely be enjoyable, especially if your mixing it with something else. Just load a bowl and take a hit and wait a few minutes, and take another if you need to.

Sorry for bumping but I would just like to add I just smoked 0.25gr plain leaf and felt intoxication like effects (motor coordination, and mild dissociative feeling). Sounds were more "internal", for lack of better description.

Most notable effect must be anti-depressant, immediately after the "peak". Not that I wasn't in a good mindset to begin with, but I can discern when my mind/mood is "lifted"/depressed pretty accurately, I believe.
I'm feeling very good, not similar but comparable to after a low dose of mushrooms. "Content" is the word maybe. (I did do aMT a few days ago and this antidepressant effect is also still there, but I feel the Salvia adds something different yet synergistic.)
