This was posted on a poetry board I used to visit a few years ago. The author remains anonymous - not even a 'net-name' was put to it. I love what it has to say about people, so I thought I'd share it with you...
Soft Landings
So very easy to fall
The sky above
Is crystal blue
I shimmer in the air
Hardly even there
So natural
Fate opens her arms
To welcome me
And helpful guides
Like guardians to the doorways
Step aside
And clear the path
Soft landings
Everything is ease
All problems dissolve
Like a tablet in a glass
A deeper, truer sleep
A pure rest
So am I blessed?
Ungrateful wretch
Sees the cushions
Rise to greet
The falling form
Pride and ambition
Burn like an acid
Along a resting form
And it is all gone, gone, gone
Little point then
Turn a blinded eye
Accept the peace
Here offered to you
Nothing else for you to do
Soft landings
Every gift and every acceptance
Every smiling face
Every encouraging word
Drugs you to the torpor
That is inertia
That is acceptance
Am I blessed?
Then I have failed the test
It seems
Or perhaps the thoughts
I used to have
Were only dreams
Soft landings
The fabric of the cushioning
Is quilted
Satin red
And matches all the places
Where my skin
Is broken
Where I've bled
I think of all the things
I might have
Should have said
Each happy twist of fate
Each offering I receive
Is only another shovelful of dirt
Falling upon my upturned face
I've watched the fall
I've taken my place
Soft landings
May your road be gentle
And when night falls
May it come with a peace
That assuages for
Unfamiliar grief
And lets you forget
The dreams you have bartered
For comfort
And for this final home
Soft landings
No need to be distressed
Just a quiet path to death
And I am blessed
Anon.
