So, I just lost a front tooth. Whatever the one right next to the canine is called... it is VERY visibly gone. What the fuck can I do?

It's the end of the year and I REALLY don't want everyone to remember me like that and have a bunch of holes in my teeth in pictures... how soon could I get a replacement tooth, or just something to fill the gap? I just need anything to make it not HELLA noticeable for a few weeks.. and ASAP obviously.

Gurn too much? Do a balloon, fish out and knock your face on the counter?

You can get an implant or bridge done really quickly, Folley. Don't want to be lookin like a toothless chav, avoid gold chains as well!

<3 Sorry to hear about your tooth :(

Implants are pretty expensive and dental insurance won't usually cover them (in US that is..not sure where you are). You can ask about a "flipper". Your dentist can tell you how much...I know they are nowhere near as expensive as an implant. It is basically like a retainer with a fake tooth in that hole and no one can tell the difference looking at it.

Sorry to hear about this!! I can only imagine what a nightmare it would be.

I know this seems like a strange suggestion but what about putting chewing cum in there? Because people are used to seeing you with all your teeth they will assume they're still there and not notice the gum. You'll just have to avoid smiling and showing that tooth.

In terms of dentistry, the retainer with the fake tooth is the cheapest option, but it would take the dentist a while to manufacture one I believe. Dental implants are quite expensive and the initial healing takes weeks.

If you can afford it, I would ask the dentist what your options are... they would know better. Good luck!

I'm definitely going to need implants eventually.. I just want a short term fix in the meantime!

If I do go the permanent route, how careful will I have to be of jaw grinding and gurning...? Because I like to get fucked and that kind of comes with it, lol. Seems the back ones take more abuse than the front in those cases, though. Also.. I am young.. fucking 17 and lost a tooth. If I keep growing will my teeth need to be adjusted all the time or will they grow with me?

This fucking sucks :(

How did you lose it? Was it pulled or did it just snap off and you still have the root buried?

A simple immediate single tooth denture can be constructed in a day or two. The tooth is extracted and the denture fitted at the same appointment. It will be fine to smile with but not really designed to chew. If you are grinding then you run the risk of cracking the acrylic.

At a pinch you could bog a resin bridge using the two teeth next door, once agin smiling only or you will repair it every couple of months. The best option is an implant but I would usually wait until 20 once your face has stopped growing. The key is conserving the bone in the meantime. If you lose too much bone or the shape of it deteriates you will require some bone grafting and tissue conditioning to make it work. If you do nothing now you run the risk of your other teeth shifting and making it impossible to fit the implant, thus needing orthodontics to correct it first.

Td;dr? Go to a dentist and discuss your options

Ahhhh yes the old chewing cum trick, works every time. Are you close to mex? Head to mexico for cheap dental work. I need lots of things done, will be going south real soon for this.

how did you lose your tooth?

(i'm gonna assume you were on drugs)

Not a huge amount, haha.. just some MXE. I was eating subway, didn't even feel it crack but then felt a huge hole in my mouth. TBH it was a long time in the making, I neglected my teeth for a LONG time. I'm probably going to have to lose a few more too...

Right now I think the best long term option is implants for the first four teeth on top... would like to hear from others how this may effect my drug habits, though. Obviously health is more important than rolling but I want to pick the best option for long term durability.

Also, I've always wanted to join the USMC.... I'm guessing this just about kills my chances of even getting in until it's fixed?

If you are a smoker, quit. It is the number one reason implants fail. Next would be a heavy occlusion, such as prolonged clenching and grinding. It can be eleviated by wearing a night splint or by positioning the tooth slightly out of your bite so these types of forces are not placed on the implant. Finally you need good oral hygiene. This means daily flossing and regular visits to the dentist for professional cleans. If you can't do these three things then you will likely cause the implants to loosen and eventually fall out.

meth was a DOC back when. 8 years of hard use and little oral hygiene. I remember I was 21 ish and I would pop the abscesses on both side of my mouth. Eventually having pain but not for a long time. Then no dental ins and had to have 2 teeth pulled. Fast forward to now. ( which is 11 + years clean from meth and gainfully employed) Dental visits every 3 months. Started with laser cleaning cause I had periodontal disease and then one implant for the obvious missing tooth. Then removal of my wisdom. That meth fucked my teeth real good. I'm getting deep cleaning every 3 months and still have problems. Been doing the dentist thing for 5 years straight and am told that if I stop going I will have major problems.
Soon as you get to the dentist the better. And don't think it will be a one time thing or cheap. You will get to know your dentist real good. I remember my gums would bleed all the time. Now they feel good and my teeth are solid.

The implant was 3K after all said and done and it felt like a Mac truck drove through my mouth. P.S that was the start of the opiate thing for me. lol
