Losing the Magic with Opiates

Righto, and on top of that if you abuse Opiates in large enough amounts and on a daily basis, you'll start losing the ability to catch that nice warm buzz no matter how much more you take. Instead it becomes a routine of maintaining a state of "normalcy." That's not hard fact though so it might be different with you. It's just what I've experienced and observed in others.

I no longer feel any euphoria from opiates either... its a sad state of affairs.
It doesn't matter how much oxy I take, I don't feel euphoria anymore, just tired. I am either withdrawing or sleepy as hell...

It's definitely not a good situation to be in, and trust I've been there. The best thing to do, as hard as it can be, is to take a long break. A couple months minimum.

You know, I've tried to respect your longevity on this board, and try to over look when you patronize people. But being on opiates myself for a long time at a prescribed dose, I developed tolerance. I believe you haven't- it so wonderful for you.

But its not really necessary to talk down to anyone else who post on this board and not even offer possible answers to the questions at hand.

Sometimes wisdom is knowing when to be silent.

I actually do have around 100 mg oxycodone tolerance , what i was saying is when you start taking more than your prescribed and your tolerance is getting up there , your not going to be feeling anything except for the analgesic effects , and the reason why i stated that is because so many people come on here saying how they dont feel this and they cant take that , and this doesnt work and in 99% of those cases its because they werent following the directions on the bottle . .

like i said ive been on narcotics for the past 8 months legitimatley and its been the same dose the entire time , its only gone up maybe 20mg and that was done by my doctor , i take over 150mg daily on a bad day , and i can still feel 40mg to this day .. and i havnt changed anything . you would really be amazed what can happen when you dont trumpt the doctors orders , or are in search of a constant "good feeling"

i didnt mean anything by it i was just stating a fact.

I suppose I will clarify a couple points.

1. I haven't been increasing my dose. I don't really ever take more than 40mgs at a time.

2. This has only occurred since I started taking tramadol.

3. I would think that if it were a purely tolerance based issue, taking more would fix this. I can't feel anything no matter how much more I take.

This is exactly what is happening. Sigh. Breaks suck. Time is a totally different animal when you have it to feel it.

GenericMind is absolutely right, eventually you have to hack down that tolerance somehow... you can keep on upping the dosages massively but your body will just keep right on catching up with tolerance.

DLPA will take down your tolerance and you dont have to take a brake, i dont know if it would make opiates more euphoric tho.

did you say you take 20 mg a day ? or do you take 20mg a few times a day ?

Im prescribed 20mg TID. That means 3 times a day. I usually take 40mg 3 days a day though. I dont go above that dosage more often than not, but doing so has no effect.

What is DLPA?

so then let me ask how is taking 40mg 3 times a day not taking more than your supposed to , if your only prescribed 20mg 3 times a day , then try taking the 20mg 3 x a day , or talk with your doctor again . when your prescribed narcotics they arnt going to take away all the pain , thats not what the medication is meant to do , its only meant to make it tolerable .. and chasing that good feeling is completley useless and what most new patients tend to do like i said 90 percent of these cases involve people taking more than their suppose to .. youve messed with your tolerance that your doctor believes your suppose to be at ..

other than taking a break to get your tolerance down the only option your going to have is to do a taper . which is alot easier said than done .

and like i said im no stranger to tolerance . i was taking 20 mg 3 x a day , then moved to 20 4 x a day , then my doc said i could start taking 20mg x2 , twice a day when taking it every 6 hours wasnt controlling my pain adequalty .. i can then take another 40 mg of percocet on top on a bad day for breakthrough .. and its been 8 months on that schedule so far and i can still feel taking 2 percs at one time and enjoy it .

Sigh. I've probably been on the PM train longer than you have. I said earlier that this isn't a pain issue. The medication takes away the pain at the level at which I am taking it. Also, I know what my meds should do pain wise.

Maybe what you are saying is good natured, but you come off like a condescending dick man. Just letting you know.

This thread is just about me not feeling any euphoria. I know that euphoria is not an intended consequence of taking narcotics for PM issues. I just want to know why that isnt occurring.

I didn't ask you to come to this thread and preach to me about proper medication usage. Do me a favor and piss off.

D,L-phenylalanine.

It's supposed to work by preventing the breakdown of a peptide, enkephalin, that is used by your brain to kill pain. So yeah, could help.

Is this something that can be found at a local GNC?

This cannot be a tolerance thing

Then it sounds as though you have reached what I call the 'law of diminishing returns'. Happens with all drugs. Starts to become more of a serious problem in most cases at this point.

All you can do is try other opiates and roa's.

This cannot be a tolerance thing. I can take 160mg at once and all I do is fall asleep. I dont get any euphoria no matter how high the dose from what I can tell.

As far as following the instructions, my doc tried putting me on duragesic patches for a while, and for some reasons these really screwed up my tolerance. This being the case, I tended to use more than I should have to get the same effect and then this occurred.

So, anyone who doesn't want to criticize me for things I can't change wanna chime in?

Well, my opinion is you are one lucky bastard. If you don't get high from opiates anymore then GREAT. Isn't that why people keep going back again and again? Seems to me that NOT getting high on opiates is a great way to beat an addiction. So, my advice (not that you asked for it) would be to just take what the doc prescribes for pain and nothing more since you're not getting high on it.

It seems to me that people who aren't experiencing pain on the opiates should allow their tolerance to drop by stopping completely (with maybe some codeine/methadone/whatever for withdrawal), and consider abusing another drug, of a different family, temporarily if it's really that hard to go without. Maybe go back to stimulants for a bit?

Or, do another recreational drug that can have analgesic effects, like a member of the dissassociative family?

Just a suggestion.
