Losing the Magic with Opiates

OK, I've been taking oxycodone for about a year do to a chronic pain issue that I have. I tend to take too much so in between prescriptions I take tramadol to ward off w/d as a cheap and legal source. I didn't used to this, instead I would use poppy tea. However due to the time consuming nature of the stuff I figured tramadol would be a better alternative.

Unfortunately since I've started doing this I do not get the euphoria from oxy or hydrocodone that I used to. And its not that its muted, I get nothing.

Has anyone had this happen to them? If so did you find a way to counteract it?

I too suffer from chronic pain , the magic is still there and have been on the same dose the past 8 months . i havnt had to have it upped or changed in anyway and its amazing what actually following those directions on the bottle will do for you .. you really should try it .. thats why there there.

This cannot be a tolerance thing. I can take 160mg at once and all I do is fall asleep. I dont get any euphoria no matter how high the dose from what I can tell.

As far as following the instructions, my doc tried putting me on duragesic patches for a while, and for some reasons these really screwed up my tolerance. This being the case, I tended to use more than I should have to get the same effect and then this occurred.

So, anyone who doesn't want to criticize me for things I can't change wanna chime in?

I noticed that if I took trams, I had to stop and give it time before returning to any other opiates or they just wouldnt work at all..

I would need at least 24 hours to let it clear my system.

You know, I've tried to respect your longevity on this board, and try to over look when you patronize people. But being on opiates myself for a long time at a prescribed dose, I developed tolerance. I believe you haven't- it so wonderful for you.

But its not really necessary to talk down to anyone else who post on this board and not even offer possible answers to the questions at hand.

Sometimes wisdom is knowing when to be silent.

Here is the weird thing though, you would think that all the tramadol would clear my system a week or so after my last dose of it. And what I have noticed is that no matter how far removed I am from my last dose of tramadol it still doesnt help at all.

It could actually be tolerance in that case.

Can I ask this- have you noticed any other symptoms? I had this happen with hydro- had about a 50 mg tolerance and then one day boom, nothing. No matter what I took or how much, no euphoria.

It does happen. I wondered when forst answering your question, but thought maybe you were one of those odd ones like me that couldnt mix tram and other opis.

It may be time to move to a different opiate. When I left hydro (blue 10 mg lortab) and went to 10 mg pinks (watson, I think) it helped.

But it may be time to move up for you.

yeah man. i was pretty big on hydro for a while. i would definitely blame it on tolerancy. my normal dosage (i was never prescribed it, purely recreational) was 7 7.5mg. now i rarely take it but i still have to take at least ten to feel it, but the odd thing is it seems to be the magic number, 9 wont do a damn thing but ten feels just fine. also if i try to take the same amount the next day, i wont feel anything.

I missed this about the patches. Yes, that did drive up tolerance.

I think a talk to the odctor is really in order. Why are you off the patches now, if I can ask?

They gave me incredibly bad rashes.

One again though, if it was tolerance you would think that increasing the dose would alleviate the issue. It doesnt. At all.

Some times Ill take about 100mgs at once just to see what happens. I catch myself nodding out but I don't get any euphoria out of it at all. Its the strangest thing.

As far as talking to my doc, the pills take my pain away they just dont have any recreational value. I kinda figure thats not his problem.

So, I assume they helped with pain, though. What about Opana? Has he mentioned that? Another long acting time released medication lots of people are very successful with.

What kind of oxy you on?

OxyContin 20mg TID. Brand name. I chew them up instead of just swallowing them, which I know I shouldn't do, but I do it anyway. I usually take 2 at a time, but can take 4 and be awake and not high at all.

This is odd. When i started taking Tramadol like 4 years ago i totally stopped feeling Hydrocodone. And in fact, it started making me sick. Prior to using Tramadol i felt Hydro's fine. Now i can't even look a Hydro pills without feeling some sort of gag reflex.

But, i can still feel Oxy, thank god. Tramadol was a great drug for me for 4 years, for pain relief and for fun. I really miss how i used to be so energized on the stuff and i was so amazingly creative and i was always making things.

And now i can barely get that from 150mgs of oxy. I still get high but i don't have energy and creativity. This usually means its time for a break. But, i have horrible pain so i don't know what to do. And i hate subs, hate the side effects of those things (not PW's, but the side effects).

I was thinking of doing a pod tapper. But anyway... this is your thread not mine.

Like i said, i did stop feeling Hydrocodone about a month after starting Tramadol. I love how Tramadol made me feel so i stopped taking Hydro's. And when i ran out of Tramadol and took some Hydro's i couldn't feel them and they made me sick.. even after a CWE. Strange.

Maybe like me... you also need a brake. I know... easier said than done.

Sigh, I was thinking this. I may just wean down the tramadol to one a day and cold turkey it for a few days and try again. Even still, I hate any kind of w/d, it just ruins me.

you guys are fun. i love bluelight.

To answer your previous question, transdermal fentanyl patches. They deliver a measured dose of fentanyl through the skin.

And what?

Sounds like tolerance to me. The only way to solve the problem is to take a break.

Would tolerance issues not be alleviated by increasing dose however?

^ Increasing your dose will allow you to feel something for a while, but it will also increase your tolerance more.
In the end, you're just fucking yourself if you do that, because your tolerance is just going to go up and up and up.
