Benzos Lorazepam for ambien Withdrawal ?

Hi Doc. prescribed me Lorazepam for anxiety and when i asked him about my ambien prescription said that i could use the Lorazepam for sleep and he did not want to put me on to many medications. Ive heard ambien is kinda cross tolerant with benzo's so i did not worry about withdrawals.

I have been taking 15-20 mg of ambien at night for several months now.

if i Stop taking ambien and take Lorazepam will i still experience ambien withdrawals?

No. They are VERY VERY cross tolerant. But IMO you dont wanna subsitute one for the other, a full benzo w/d would be much worse. Use it the nights you really are havin trouble sleeping, other than that start weaning off the zolp, bad habit... Ive been on ambien and klonopin for 2 years and my docs (3 diff ones) make sure I dont use either of them daily or nightly. Its just bad bad bad news. Get off both as soon as possible.
 
^True. I would take the lorazepam, as needed and ask him to switch you to trazodone. I've tried everything that would normally make one drowsy, and traz takes the cake! It's non-addictive and it also give you almost complete rem sleep. Ambien and benzos totally f*ck with your REM sleep and both are addictive. I take 100mg of trazodone an hour before bed and I'm out like a light!

They give them out like candy at rehabs because it is so safe. I was given it because I was an alcoholic and it's common that they give it to recovering alcoholics to help them sleep because (for me) I was used to passing out every night from alcohol.

Give it a try!

Your so lucky traz works for you. It makes me feel like Shit and gives me hypertension restless leg syndrome like a bitch. I love the super realistic dreams you get on it tho.
 
Fallow up Question.

Will taking Lorazepam reduce ambiens effect in the future because its a real and potent benzo as a posed to ambien a non-benzo?

Ambien has been good to me and easy for docs to write. I don't want to destroy its usefulness by going to the next level. witch seems likely to be the case here.

upon taking my first mg of lorazepam its effects hit very hard suggesting my ambien tolerance has not effected my 0 real benzo tolerance.

Though the two are cross tolerant they arnt completly cross tolerant. So idealy id like to switch back and forth when one looses its effectiveness swtich and vis versa. This is wish full thinking im affraid as like i said I think lorazepam is just a much stronger real verson of ambien.

I find that I cannot take ambien for at least 2 days after I take a real benzo. It just wont work.
