lorazepam and methadone please help

Hi I take a very low dose of methadone every day. I'm tapering off. I take 2.5mg in morning 2.5mg at night been on this for 2 years so I definitely have a methadone tolerance. I just got prescribed .5mg of lorazepam (ativan) for my anxiety and sleeping issues. Is it Ok to take the lorazepam sometimes at night with my methadone dosage? So I can sleep and not get Anxious. I took that tonight and I'm kinda worried. But just looking for opinions. Thanks

Generally, it's not recommended to mix CNS depressants. You didn't say if you have a tolerance to benzos but since your doctor prescribed this, I think you would be safe. He does know you are on methadone right? Neither of those doses are high though. I imagine you probably had a nice sleep, let us know how you did and welcome to Bluelight!

I don't really have a tolerance to benzos. I only really take them when I absolutely need them. My Dr does know that I'm on methadone. I had a very nice sleep! I was taking xanax before I started with the lorazepam and I can definitely say I like the lorazepam better. Xanax is a little too strong for me. Thank you! Appreciate it

If your DR knows your on methadone and still prescribed the benzo to you I'm sure it is fine, your DR is a medical professional so if he/she was worried they wouldn't have prescribed it. I personally used to take benzo's all the time with my methadone anywhere from 2mg of clonazepam to 40mg of valium and was always fine. Best to start small and build up slow if you are worried
