lorazepam and diphenhydramine

I have been known to on occasion to take lorazepam for panic attacks, in the summer i also have constant allergies. my question being, if i were to add 25mg of diphenhydramine to 1mg of lorazepam how profound would the effect be?

if you are adding the 25 mg of benadryl for allergy there should not be problem. However adding the benadryl is going to make you much drowsier. So maybe only do this at night before you sleep. You really shouldn't drive or go to work. Try to find something for allergies that wont make you as drowsy since lorezepam can do this on it's own.

much appreciated, ya i really don't take lorazepam very often anyway, maybe once or twice a month tops. i'm not going anywhere today so i won't be bothered by the sedation (shit might even enjoy some of it).... anyway as i said appreciate the reply..

Yeah there shouldn't be a problem but of course you're going to become more drowsy. Try to find an otc allergy medication that doesn't make you that tired, even though that may be hard. I really can't comment on which one to choose since I have never become drowsy from allergy medications (yeah I know weird). Other than that make safe choices.... don't go out and drive because that will be an extremely bad idea but I'm pretty sure you already know that.

I can speak from experience, 1mg lorazepam + 25mg diphenhydramine is quite effective at putting you to sleep. It's safe, don't worry about that. Just don't try and drive your car afterwords.

If that's an issue and you have to take the lorazepam (I completely understand if you do) then I recommend trying a non-sedating 2nd generation antihistamine and finding out which one works for you. Some people have the same relief with a 2nd generation as they do with Benadryl/diphenhydramine, and others need the heavy duty stuff (Benadryl, even though its really really old, is still one of the most effective OTC antihistamines ever.)

As stated above, this combo could be quite good at causing drowsiness. I would experiment at home with this before say, taking the combo before going for a drive. I know it is more expensive than good old diphenhydramine, but try the newer generic Allegra (fexofenadine HCl). It has fairly high potency and does not easily cross the blood-brain barrier, so it does not cause drowsiness (at least in my experience).

if you want to limit the drowsiness the swap the diphenhydramine for loratadeine or something.

As a matter of fact, Diphenhydramine causes much more drowsiness than a more potent Benzo out there. Even beats Ambien as far as inducing sleep....

Seriously, Diphenhydramine is "wicked" when taken as a sleep aid. Works much better than any Benzo or prescription hypnotics out there.

O i love sedation, thats the whole reason i take xanax recreationally there would have to be something wrong with you not to enjoy it

The Benedryl will produce a little more sedation, mostly just drowsiness, but I used to take the two combined whenever I needed sleep at night. Usually 3mg of lorazepam + 50mg DPH would do the job.
