does anyone know if methadone is easier on the liver ( causes less damage to the liver than loperamide in doses high enough to fight w/d.( not the on the label dose loperamide). I actually went to the ER yesterday concerned because of swelling and bruises and pain in my feet and mild stomach pain about where my liver is.. the ER docs sent me home with a clean bill of health. however i think they could have missed something i know Ers typically only do basic tests. They did an utrasound and labs and i asked about liver fuction he said it was normal.

the background:
over a yr ago i started taking loperamide for norco Wds.but, i would still have pain and would switch back to my Rx when i could. ( in retrospect i should have told my Dr the norco was notworking well and got switched to something that would have controlled my pain at prescribed doses so i would not run out early). anyway even though the ER said everything was fine i still get the feeling my body is sending me urgent : "take a break moron "messages. so i'm on 20mgs 10 pills of lope to stop almost all wds.I tried to CT didn't even get through a day before the headache was unbearable.

so given my swollen feet, bruises and mild right side pain im considering switching one addiction for another because ive read that people with liver problems can safely take methadone and at least i would be working in official channels if anything did happen.

I am staying with a friend for a bit while i'min intensive classes at school. so i felt ok about going to Er yesterday i thought yes i would go through WDs if admitted but, at least my regular Dr at home would not see and 2 if one is going to be very ill a hospital is a good place to do it.

So my questions: i know Tylenol is toxic to the liver. the lope bottle says it is too. So is methadone less toxic to liver function?

2 if i were to try the methadone or subs, how do clinics work is is it like any other dr to get an appointment?

i know my other option is to taper the lope but, so far i keep hitting a wall when i get lower than 8mgs a day.and if i can do less damage to my health by switching that would be good.
tapering the norco is not an option because they dont work to stop W/ds anymore. thanks for reading

By the way, i read thevery entire mega thread on loperamide first
