Opioids Loperamide (Immodium) Megathread: We have now lost at least 2 of our own from Lope

Beavesmx44. I was always of the same line of thought until I saw fist hand how dependent people become on weed. Even then I didn't think it necessarily lead to other harder drugs but it appears I was wrong. My son was just looking for a readily available high to ease his mind. The post he saw was on reddit/drugs and it really did make it sound like a harmless high and a loop hole in the system.

To the best of my knowledge he took loperamide with antacid, Indian tonic water and white grapefruit juice. Possibly black pepper too. We got home at 2.30 on that Sunday afternoon and he seemed normal but complained he was tired and went to lie down at 3.30. We checked on him about 6pm as he was making funny sounds in his sleep. His dad woke him and he was startled but said he was fine. We checked him again at 7.50 as he was so quiet and he was already dead. I don't know for sure but I think he may have taken some Tuesday and then again Friday and Saturday. We won't get the autopsy results for months which is very distressing. From my research I think he may have died from respiratory failure caused by overdosing. He had no previous opiate use. He only went looking for something else because he couldn't get hold of any weed.
My first reaction was to warn the world but that would only highlight it more and I do not want other parents to go through this.
The reason I joined the forum is to share and warn and hope that the addicts and those in wd that talk about it make it known that that it's potentially lethal to anyone with low or no tolerance.
I found the post he read on his computer and it made it sound mild and harmless.
My beautiful intelligent and creative boy didn't just collapse like others I have read about he just slipped away.. No second chance ...

Oh my God, I am so, so sorry for your loss. I can't begin to imagine how devastated you are. Feel free to PM me any time.

Sincerest condolences. Peace to you and your son's memory. I feel that posts of this kind will shed light light on the purposes and motives of harm reduction, and in the long run save lives in the wake of those lost.

Been having an amazing time combining 45-90mg dxm with 50-80mg lope and some weed of course. I've been drinking earl grey tea too. First thing I noticed was holy shit my weed felt way stronger a couple hits made my eyes go complete red. My eyes were pin'd. A little stomach discomfort but the weed made it go away. The body high was alright. It did make me nod at times. Kind of heavy but not outstanding euphoric.

God no I'm an exheroin addict. I was just sharing info on the combo because I don't think much exists yet.

happydaysover...regardless of what happened, I am truly sorry for your loss. When I asked about the possibility of drug use you didn't know about, I wasn't trying to be critical. I just know from my own experience that hiding an underlying drug problem can be easy to do. I was under my parent's roof when I was using in the beginning and we were tightly knit as well. I always felt guilty about it and didn't want them to know.

Thank you staff/writer. I'm not offended and I guess it could be possible but I don't think so. It's crazy that the autopsy is going to take so long as it adds to out pain. Our town doesn't have its own pathologist currently and the wheels of bureaucracy run slowly in Australia!

Thank you for that AromaticNitrogen I hope that if nothing else my contribution to this forum will indeed create a little more awareness and hopefully save the life of another teenager.

I believe my ability to get high on lope has increased. Well by that I mean side effects occur milder, allowing higher doses to be handled. See after taking low doses below that which agonizes you're brain opioid recepetor, adds tolerance to only your gut opioid receptors. Any bother else have a similar experience?

Due to the loperamide overdoses mentioned in this thread we are going to focus strictly on the use of loperamide for staving off withdrawals and disallow discussion of using it to get high.

Myself and the rest of the Other Drugs moderators have discussed this and have concluded that the relatively high risk to low reward ratio make it that it's not in the best interest of harm reduction to advocate getting high off of this drug (or in most cases unsuccessfully attempting to do so) especially since the side effects of it are not very well known at this point.

I appreciate that you have had seemingly positive results in respect to using this drug recreationally, but it would not be wise for us to act as though this is the norm when it is certainly not, and others have died in an attempt to achieve such results.

Who was the first person to OD on Loperamide? Can somebody direct me to the thread?

Thanks.

And I'm sorry for your loss, happydaysover.

Sorry, I don't feel comfortable giving you a link.
That might be rude, but I will tell you there is a thread in the shrine (first page).

So deeply sorry for your loss, happydaysover.
I hope you find happy days again.

I've been in the ICU for 11 days from the combination of loperamide and cimetadine. The muscle weakness you guys describe, is your heart giving out. I went into ventricular tachycardia and am extremely lucky to be alive. The cimetadine elongated the half life, so if you think your taking 150mg a day, your accumulating 25% per day. My blood levels were in the multigram range, and this prolongs your QTc interval of your heart. If you want to live, stop taking them now, go to the ER and get a EKG. I shouldn't be alive

I did not have a opiate overdose you would think of, narcan wouldn't have helped. It was the free loperamide affecting the qtc interval. If your passing out, your close to ventricular tachycardia, my heart may never be the same
