Opioids Loperamide as a sleep aid?

^The only thing I have found loperamide useful for is what it's marketted for (anti-diarreah) and for taking away physical withdrawl symptoms from opiate withdrawl.

As for it being an effective sleep-aid it would only really work if you were in withdrawl and had RLS symptoms, it has always taken them away for me.

If you took a massive amount it can be sedating but given the GI side effects this would produce, its not really a good idea.

It can, at doses of 6 mg to 10, depending of your habit, help relieve the symptom diarreah, which in turn may be useful in the treatment of opiate withdrawal, therefore maybe helping you to retain much needed fluids & not have to worry about needing to shit like a rocket while you're lying in bed trying to rest.

I doubt that it has actual sedative effects, though you may find it gives you enough relief from heavy opium withdrawal that it puts you in a relaxed state capable of helping you sleep.

You'd be much better off using OTC doxylamine than loperamide.

There's always calcium & magnesium for the natural muscle relaxation, hot baths too.
Temazepam or a little cannabis before bed works wonders too.
Nver had doxylamine without caffeine& codeine in the pills, seemed decent., promethazine at 20 mg or eeven 40/50 will have your eyes so heavy good luck making it to bed in a normal way.
However in find anitihistamines to produce an very unpleasant sedation; like you dont fell relaxed or tired, you just feel so intoxicated all you are rendered capaple of doing is lying in bed. Good luck any of you who take an antihistmne ( doxylamine, diphenhydraine, promethzine) then get a call or visit from a friend because you will look & act like you just had a lobotomy!

I find an occasional (14/28 pills) of a benzo or zopiclone every 3 or 4 months the preferred method for insomnia.

I've had it all for insomnia folks. Melatonin work great for me for about 2 months, then gave all kinds of side effects in wont get into righ t now.

my whole family on my mothers side takes melatonin. 1mg and I pass out like I took 100mg of benadryl (which I agree with the above poster is a disgusting feeling). temazepam is also great but it's my favorite benzo and I have taken very large amounts (like over half a gram).

1 or 2 hits of high grade cannabis, daily exersize. good sex can help as well. personally I TRY and stay awake all the time. That's my real problem. like, I stay awake so I can enjoy my alone time.

This is a bit off topic, but I have been seeing people talk about the substantial price of loperamide and I don't understand why. I get mine at Sam's Club, it is a 350 count bottle of Members Mark loperamide, they are tiny greenish/white caplets (elongated tablets) with an L2 on them for $5.45. That's about 4 doses if you follow the threads that talk about how much to intake. That means you've spent $1.36 a dose. How is that a substantial price?

I apologize if this thread broke price guidelines. It is a legal OTC so I wasn't sure.

i think they were talking about the boxes of like 24ct immodium. that shits expensive.

I was taking 200mg daily for about 8 months and at that high of a dose I would get the nods at night and sleep like a baby all night long, not sure what it does at lower amounts, can't remember but at those higher doses blurred vision and dehydration were eminent!

Also, if you take high amounts of lope be sure to TAPER! don't jump off at high amounts, otherwise you will experience some pretty long and drawn out WD just from using lope itslef. No mental cravings but 4-5 days and nights of some pretty Hellish WD, it took me almost 20 days to feel normal again and the half life is pretty long so you won't go into precipitated WD for 48-60 hrs or so.

YES,
Loperamide works as a sleep-aid for me. I have been trying to taper off Suboxone, and it also helps with restless legs somewhat. I need to take at least 6mg of loperamide to get a sedating effect. Like all opiates, it is constipating, so take some magnesium oxide with it to avoid constipation. It may dry out your eyes as well. Good luck! :-)
