If someone is in 140mg of Loperamide, will taking Subutex put them in precipitated withdrawal?

Yes. I've seen it mentioned in of the big loperamide threads several times.

Yep. Supposedly, one needs to wait longer than 48 hours, perhaps even 72 hours to avoid P/W if they are using very high dose loperamide on the daily. I'm sure it varies a tiny bit depending on the length of use, dosage amount, actual length of time since last dosage and/or other factors.

I'd be interested to know if sub blocks loperamide. I don't care about catching a buzz, but I want to ease WDs from suboxone. My question would also apply to kratom; any personal experiences would be helpful.

Yes, I want to know too. I've detoxed a billion hellish times on opiates. This is my first attempt to wean sub. I hadn't known about loperamide until this forum.

Yes. I was on heroin. Thought I'd use loperamide to ease the wd symptoms til taking suboxone. I took a total of 60 mg loperamide (12 mg spaced out about every 6 hrs). 32 hours after my last shot of heroin I took 2 mg of sub. Went immediately into precipitated wd. I was sick for hours-- it's no joke, and unlike being dopesick you can't just go cop some dope n feel better

I should have either stayed with the loperamide to help kick, or went straight to sub from dope to help kick. Ah, we'll, hindsight is 20/20. Hopefully my hindsight prevents someone else from experiencing what I did.

Loperamide is an opioid. Although it binds to opiate receptors in your body rather than brain, sub can (and does) kick those opioids off the receptor--thus the precip wd

Interestingly now--though not at the time--the immediate first wd symptom was immediate diarrhea. Well--loperamide does bind to the receptors in the intestinal tract!! Honestly, at the time that was my clue to realization that it was the *loperamide* and not the heroin that caused the precip wd....

Wow, I thought the whole point was that it never crossed the BBB below exceptional doses.. thus, only physical effects from takings subs, of which we have far fewer receptors for. My understanding anyway.

Another reason I'll never try loperamide. (I hate being constipated and the psychosomatic effects alone of taking ~20-20 when directed to take one or two..

Im taking 120mg of lope per day with cimitdine and grapefruit juice. I am coming off methadone 120mg and it has been a life saver but im really concerned about damaging my self. Has anyone successfully detoxed from methadone this way? If so how long did you stay on the lope and how did you taper? Please , any advice is appreciated. Thanks

After years of opiate abuse, I started going to a Methadone clinic. This went on for six years. I ended up moving to a different state rather abruptly, where I had no access to Methadone, or any other opiate, once my small stash had run out. While browsing the Internet for ANY viable options, I found Loperamide. I know it sounds like a bunch of excuses but I had a job I needed to get to and bills to pay...I didn't have the strength or motivation to put my life on hold and kick through the absolutely intense withdrawal I was experiencing. To be honest, at that point, I was willing to try just about anything.

Now, fast forward six months later. I can't even imagine what the long term affects are of taking so much anti-diarrhea medicine, but it has definitely helped. Helped in the sense that I haven't been withdrawing, I can sleep more than four hours in a row, and I can definitely feel a certain euphoria at times. (Like when your opiates kick in and you feel warm and fuzzy and talkative...ready to conquer your own little world.) But the fact of the matter is that I'm still HEAVILY addicted to something. If I don't take it daily, I wake up that first night with the sweats and major RLS.

This has just been my experience with it. So, if you can help it, I definitely don't recommend anyone take this on. Especially because I do experience intermittent side effects, other than the obvious constipation... Specifically, vision problems (difficulty focusing) and/or difficulty getting a full, deep, satisfying breath. Has anyone else experienced these with Loperamide?

I know it seems ridiculous to some, taking 60 to 80 anti-diarrhea pills...like downing a bottle of Robitussin to trip. But this is coming from someone who was on the needle for years with pills, heroin, then Methadone...

Loperamide has become just as much a prison than any other opiate I've been addicted to.

I'm considering taking this for the reason you described. How long do the withdrawal symptoms last when you stop taking them? Also, is this euphoria happening every time you dose?

Loperamide is an intriguing drug, to me.....

If you've got serious problems coming off methadone, then perhaps you should consider switching to buprenorphine and then continue tapering down with that drug. I got off methadone last year after ~2.5 years of methadone twice a day every day. I never used such high doses as 120mg, but even after gradually getting off 40mg I experienced terrible withdrawal that lasted and lasted, and made me start using classic opioids again. My doctor prescribed me tramadol to ease the withdrawal, but it did next to nothing, literally. Even codeine was 100 times better. In the end he offered to place me on Suboxone, because at that time there was hardly any other way out of that hell. I'm far from being happy on Suboxone, but at least it makes me feel normal unlike methadone that blurred my mind like hell.

I'm on day 4 off a 2mg a day subutex habit, I took 40mg of lope w/cimetidine and gf juice yesterday, and 30mg today. In two more days I get a supply of sub and dont plan on taking anymore lope. When I take my sub, would p/w be an issue after only dosing lope twice and at those semi high doses?

I'm not sure about that, mate. I'm buying loperamide for your exact reasons, weaning off sub some time in the future (I've got like 600 pills coming in the mail any day now). I've heard it can cause PWD's as someone else pointed out.

Are you finding it's helping your WD symptoms at all btw?

Would buprenorphine really give you full precipitated withdrawals from loperamide and not just precipitated diarrhea?

For me, yeah the stuff really works. I have used it before a number of times to kik dope, or really to just fend off wd until I could score again. And to bounce from dope to sub (that God awful period you gotta wait before takin sub). The dosage I have found is taking into account what I have read from others, and my own experience. I know the unquenchable thirst at 50mg and above is annoying as hell, but I haven't taken it for more than 2 or 3 days at a time. Good luck man.

Are you trying to quit using H for good? If so you may want to look at my thread on how I beat H without any withdrawal. Infact it was fun and in a mere 7 days I was clear from H completely. I just use Sertraline 50mg to beat any depression I may feel and diazepam 5mg if I ever feel the urge to take any H coming on. I have been clean for 2 weeks now and I tell you, it's a wonderful life!!!

sooo to the ppl that are crushing boxes of diarhrea medicine everyday and taking it with weird stuff to try and make it produce a high, do you have a gi system anymore? or is the dookie now like petrified wood? id like to pretend i never saw that picture of a fecal impaction, but i cant. it was just too horrifying. maybe skip the loperamide and go right for the bupe if you have a dependence issue. its better than winding up with a colostomy bag and a butthole you could drive a car sideways thruough.

I'm not sure if any anti-diarrhea med could be strong enough to cause a fecal impaction, let alone an opiate one. I've been on strong opiates for over a decade, and I'm regular as clockwork; maybe my gut has some kind of tolerance...?

I admit, trying to get high from anti-diarrhea medicine is pretty damn desperate, though.
