looking to quit--or at least cut my dose down

When I use oxy for the high I rail about 120mgs at once. But in order for me to continue thought the day so I don't get sick I need to do about 20mgs every few hours, so I would say my daily oxy intake is about 180-200mgs a day.

But the problem is, I do in fact need them for pain. Now oddly enough 20mgs helps with my pain, which is what I would like to get too, ~every 4 hours. I have M.S so I need pain meds.

Yes, I know should of been more careful, but we have all been there I'm sure.

So am I looking at a taper schedule? Im not looking for the high anymore, even though it was fine while it lasted.

Any advice?

sorry if this is the wrong section, if it is, would a mod kindly move it. Thanks..

have you tried any of the continuous release narcotic meds like the fentanyl patch?

This certainly doesn't seem appropriate HL material, perhaps it would be better suited in OD due to other threads with similar content.

Apologies to the mods if this doesn't belong here...it was this or BDD imo, but thought I'd try it here.

If you don't really care about losing access to high amount of oxycodone, why don't you talk about it to your doctor who gives you scripts? You could easily switch from oxycodone to e.g. buprenorphine and you would have to take only one dose a day and there would be almost no risk you would have any problems with it like you would feel an urge to increase your dose.

Once I started buprenorphine as a maintenance drug after a very hard binge on 160mg morphine / 40mg levorphanol and while it didn't really work for me in the end as a maintenance drug, I was astonished how it numbed me. It blocked pain much more than morphine. I'm sure the reason partly was the fact I was taking 60 times bigger dose than those used for pain management but it was something I really didn't expect anyway.

As an addict who used to shoot up a lot of opioids giving rush in a matter of seconds, I can tell you that tapering down these opioids is virtually impossible. But in your case it might be different, I don't know how long you've been abusing oxycodone.

If you don't want to switch oxycodone to something else, then just try lowering your main dose and gradually put yourself back at your prescribed dose. It's just your will. But I will be frank with you about the symptoms you might experience. When you're in a process of tapering down, you may experience something that is best described as "continuous weak withdrawal". I get this very often with methadone but I've got a hard time tapering it down because I have to split-dose it, it doesn't work for me the whole day. Now I scheduled a new taper-down plan for myself with lowering the morning dose and the evening dose, so far it works (well, I've gotten wasted today, I have such days of weakness from time to time but it wasn't a big dose).
