Looking to explore psychedelics

I have never used psychedelics before and would like to experience them. I tend to only smoke cannabis (I am a frequent user) and would like some advice so I can enjoy my first trip safely.

I don't want anything where a trip could potentially last for 8 or so hours, or anything too heavy. I have heard good things about LSD, DMT, NBOME and Cubensis.

Would it be advisable to try psychedelics alone for the first time, in a quiet environment?

I'm open to any suggestions.

Well, LSD is always my recommendation for newbies. To me, it is the quintessential psychedelic, because it does exactly what psychedelics are supposed to do, very well. And, it's generally a very manageable and positive experience. But it does last quite awhile.

Otherwise, if you want a very brief effect, try DMT. However, despite the fact that DMT and LSD are both grouped together as serotonergic psychedelics, they are actually very different trips.

I definitely do not recommend an NBOMe phenethylamine for a first trip. IMO, the best they can offer is the wild visuals, which are ultimately pretty trivial in the face of the incredible personal transformation that something like LSD can elicit.

We don't allow "what should I take" questions, though we do have a thread where people have recommended what they think would be the best Beginner's Psychedelic. We encourage you to hit the Index, and research the drugs you are considering yourself, so you can make an informed decision.

As for your other question, you want your first trip to be in a safe environment, yes. As to whether or not you wanna be alone, that depends on how comfortable you are by yourself vs around other people in general (assuming you have a suitable partner/sitter).

I would suggest one of three things for your first trip, a sober person who has used psychedelic drugs before, a person also tripping that has more experience than you do but took the same dose. the best option however, is having a very very close personal friend (or multiple, I wouldn't go past 4 personally) who is also using the drug for the first time.

with the last option you get the added bonus of preparing together, and you should certainly prepare extensively. read threads about the drug on BL here, read about famous people that used the drug. at this point the chemistry side of thing shouldn't be the concern anymore, so read more whimsical accounts of peoples trips or what have you, and share this with you fellow virgin tripper.
most importantly the key to a safe and fun or productive trip is to relieve yourself of all obligations. have a comfortable place to be, with nobody that you need to hide your high from, parents, etc. there should be no way that you would HAVE to drive a car. you should have food, drink, other drugs, everything you will need, a place to sleep depending on the timeframe youre tripping. basically don't have a care in the world

There is an absolutely HUGE amount of information available on Erowid, Bluelight, and Wikipedia about psychedelic drugs. If you're prepared to try them, you're prepared to do some research on them first.

Just to help you out:

LSD, Cubenesis, and NBOME's are all 8-hour trips. DMT, while much shorter in duration, is EXTREMELY intense.

If you're not ready for a long, intense experience, you may want to hold off on psychedelic drugs for now.

Hello, we don't allow "suggest a substance" threads on bluelight because they are not conducive to harm reduction. Please take a moment to read the rules and guidelines in my signature before posting again :)

The answer to your question is that you should try whichever you have done the most research on and are the most comfortable with. Many people create a shortlist based on what is available to them and then work from there.
