A quick back story is i slip on the ice walking my dog and landed directly on me knee. After a day of icing and wrapping it i ended up going to an emergicenter to get it looked at as the pain was almost unbearable. They took xrays found the bone had been bruised and a possible hairline fracture on my knee cap. They set me up wit a 4 day supply of low dose (5/335) percocets that would last till my appointment with an orthopedic specialist. He agreed with the previous finding and scheduled me to come back in 2 weeks. He also gave me an 8 day supply of the same percs. I'm not sure wether it was a difference in brands or what but these did not give the same kind of relief as the first did and i repeatedly attempted to go to reach my Dr. with this complaint and tried to see if he could prescribe something else that would be more effective and i might not have to take every 4 hours.

7 days later i slipped on the ice again once again landing on the same knee. Needless to say this has been quite a painful experience. I went to another emirgicenter where they took xrays and once again found i fortunately had no breaks. The refused to give me anything other than ultrams and send me on my way. At this point i had been trying to reach my Dr. for 4 days. The following day i decided just to stop in and explain the situation of how i had fallen on the same knee and my script was almost up and that i would like to get a refill until i can see my Dr. at the follow up apt the next thursday, 8 days away. I explained going to the emergicenter and them giving me ultram which werent helping at all hence i was hoping to at least get my prescription from this Dr. refilled if not upgraded a little. Instead the nurse comes back with another prescription for ultrams! So i once again went to the phones and called trying to get a hold of my elusive Dr. to try and see if he could help me.

I finally get a phone call back from the hospital this evening saying they wont do anything more and i need to go to my pcp if i want to try to get anything that will actually help deal with this consistent pain in my knee. I feel as though they are treating me like i just some junky off the street and are just pushing me off as much as they can.

My pcp's office if closed currently but i will be calling in the morning and trying to get a same day apt if possible. I will explain all this to my Dr. but i was wondering if anybody might have some pointers of what angle to approach this from. I haven't been with him long and i certainly don't want him to think i'm just fishing for pills. I'm very comfortable with him and would like to keep him as my pcp.

I've dabbled with pain meds in the past and gave it up as i saw it becoming to expensive to fast for me. I know i can have a somewhat addictive personality so i try to stay away from most things these days.

Can anybody please give my any advise on how to approach this with my Dr. so i might be able to come away with something that actually might help me?

HOMELESS to BDD ... though they may close it as "doctor shopping" or ways to deceive medical personnel for drug addictions, not necessarily legitimate usage (keep in mind, even if your account is true and accurate, if it works others may try to imitate it strictly for the drugs).

I can assure you the account is accurate. I dont see how it could be Dr, shopping when they've told me to go ask my pcp, I'm not trying to support my drug habit i'm just trying to get the proper pain relief for my situation. You would think asking for the same prescription as before when you get the same injury. wouldn't be an odd requrdt

A nurse from my thyroid specialists office that i should go to the er and explain to them but er visits are not cheap and i just don;t have the funds to do so. Not after spending all i have on paying this current Dr. that isn't willing to help me.

Explain to your doctor what happened as it did, and explain the pain it caused, and what they prescribed, how it worked. Explain that you need relief, and the degree to which the pain is effecting your life and functioning i.e. sleep, work, mood.

explain it to your doc...if its legit they will give u somethin to hold u over until u can see an orthopedic doc...they give that shit out like candy...but only if its legit...they need to see the pain not just hear it...

Honestly the ER is the last place to go if your in legitimate pain. I have a 2 broken vertebrae and 2 cracks in my pelvis and they want do shit for me. They see too many people come in there just looking for pain meds and automatically think your just a junky. They are very judgemental. Unfortunately thats just the way it is man. Make sure they know about your past use of painkillers whether legit or not they have to know this to be able to help you get out of pain sufficiently.
