Looking for a good hypnotic

if anyone is still talkin SEROQUEL, i was prescribed it for anxiety/insomnia. made me feel terrible. doc made me keep taking saying it would get better. It didn't, i'd feel like crap all day the next day. Had trouble speaking, terrible nightmares. People in jail love to abuse it bcuz it just knocks you down and makes it almost impossible to think or speak. EZ to sleep away your years behind bars. Anyways it almost ruined my life just one month on that shit. Another doctor said medco reps tell them to prescribe for these off label uses bcuz it runs about 178$ for 30 pills. Seroquel is for schizophrenia and thats what it should be used for. Many people who aren't schitzo's, but just anxious and cant sleep can have very bad reactions to it. It changed who i was. (If that makes sense). If your goin to the doc getta light benzo or an ambien. Medicine cabinet a couple benadryl will do. My life still isnt the same, i went from having a little anxiety or insomnia to wanting to kill myself all day everyday. Having screaming and shouting fits. I want to go to that doctor and just kick him in the nutz then make him take seroquel. I lost my job and i am just now getting better. I take xanax sometimes to help me out now and it works ok. If i had a penny to my name i would find the best lawyer i could and sue the shit out of that dumb ass doctor.
MY ADVICE DO NOT TAKE SEROQUEL!!!!

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME!!! TO the LETTER.

Seroquel is a horrible and dangerous drug and should NOT be taken if you do not respond to it in a positive way. Day and Night.

OK I posted up there about sedatives I've used.. I know this isn't a hypnotic, but Kratom is my newest discovery of WOW. Getting into a good feeling that is bioavailable and nearly puts me to sleep if I wanted to. Recreationally it is fun to be on it for hours, have a nice meal and socialize or have the energy to organize or work on (non-heavy machinery) tasks. It's probably NOT the best thing to take habitually since it might most likely cause a psychological addiction that is very much like opiates, since the potent alkaloids effect mu-opioid receptors. On the other hand I feel no withdrawal effects like I do from opiates, which is one reason I don't like them. If you have about 4-6 hours before bed time, figure out what dose and grade of powdered leaf kratom works for you... Don't mess with resin. Extract-enhanced leaves might cut down on dosage and might make you more tired than raw leaf. Once it's kicked in. Maybe have a light snack of something that doesn't have a lot of calories.. This always seems to kick in the groovy feelings. Then when you're ready to fall asleep take some melatonin. Around 3mg. This knocked my head on the pillow two nights in a row. I woke up after 9 hours feeling quite refreshed.
Now the flipside. I'm not doctor or even seasoned herbal remedy expert. So experiment with this stuff with caution since there's no regulation on dosage of alkaloids like you would get from a pharmaceutical prescription. A lot of people report vomitting from this stuff. My postulate on that is people are taking way too much as a first dose. As with opiates, many people vomit and have a horrible time until they get used to it. So if you plan to try this research as best as you can and always start low and work up.

I feel that I am providing this suggestion as an alternative to pharmaceutical medications that might otherwise not work for you. Be careful since this is still an experimental herbal remedy to most of western society.
Take care and I wish you the best of dreams.

Just a little follow up since a couple people agreed
I still haven't been back to the "doctor" who prescribed me the seroquel. I will let everyone know when I do and kick him in the nutz and throw a huge stack of anti-seroquel research at him. If i wasnt so upset/anxious i would have read about seroquel a little before i took it. It would've made sense to me not to take a schizophrenia drug for insomnia.(even if it is an "off label" use)

I had someone in my family just die and was a little depressed, anxious and sleepless. He gave me one right in his office and then someone drove me to rite aid and i got it filled. Along with Remeron ran me well over $300. When i told him it made me feel shitty/worse he said you gotta let it build up in your system. "I wouldn't want you to go postal" that was his exact quote And to keep taking. I told him I stopped takin the Remeron. I didn't need an antidpressant! I wasn't depressed, I was just having trouble sleeping cuz i kept thinkin of my dead relative.

I asked him for something short acting so i could sleep and work.(Benzo) He talked to me like i was a drug addict! (which i wasn't) I continued with the seroquel. Three weeks later i lost my job (good job) for getting in a verbal argument with a coworker and being late a few times.(Mostly the argument) Things i would never do. When i said seroquel made it hard for me to talk. I didn't mean slurring or anything. I meant it was physical hard to make sound come out of my mouth.

I should've just spent the $300 on an ounce of kb. Anyway for sleep your better off taking an OTC sleep medicine. Hell drinkin 20 beers is a better way to go to sleep than poppin a seroquel. I personally would feel better in the morining with the beer than the Seroquel Or if you can get your hands on a Xanax or another benzo. I've heard some weird things about Ambien, but it cant be worse then seroquell

Sorry for the long post i just have strong feelings on this subject.

PS Now i think i might be a drug addict...(not the benzo's though). I guess losing your job and sitting home all day that can happen. How IRONIC, i guess the "genius" doctor must have been able to predict the future. Now i am depressed and probably an addict. Was thinkin of ordering some Lexapro on the net( Sick of these dumb f*ck redneck doctors) Hmm maybe I should just order some OC 80's instead. Ok enough rambling this is like my therapy session lol.

Seems some people don't respond well to Seroquel. However, I'm taking 600mg of Seroquel every night for more than 3 months now and it works excellent. No tolerance like with other hypnotics, no hangover, and I'm getting a lot of good sleep.

Yes, and I am amazed you're able to write coherent sentences at that dose. By the way, if there's no tolerance, then why is it that you're taking 600mg a night, rather than the standard sleep-facilitating dose of 25mg?

I guess its the H1 antagonsim I dislike as same is with Remeron, unbearable.Well it probably depends if you wanna do anything productive the next day.

I had Remeron lying around and took it a couple days ago because I just couldn't sleep. I believe I took 30 mg around 11, woke up at 8:30 cause I had to be somewhere.

I decided to take a "nap" at 6 pm because I was still so tired and didn't wake up until 9 am the next day.

:\

I've used the following for sleep successfully for periods of time: seroquel, trazadone, ambien, lunesta. Off the top of my head. I've taken others that have worked but only for a day or two before I developed a tolerance.

Doxepin is a tricyclic but widely used for it's drowsiness inducing effects. clonidine also is quite sedating but IME leaves one feeling a bit groggy in the morning. I recently tried a relatively new russian tranquiliser drug called 'mebicar' that at a 450mg dose pretty much knocked me out although supposedly this drug does not commonly cause strong sedation. It does however potentiate benzos, according to studies, supposedly it is also nootropic (neurotropic is what one study said). I have seen an OTC antihistamine I can't remember the name of the drug but it is sold specifically for sleep, I found that it had an effect of me waking up feeling on edge and irritable an effect which gradually increased with further use.

haven't seen anyone mention meprobromate or carisprodol...

where i live there is a med called "mepronizine" which is meprobromate+aceprometazine..
or there is "noctran" which is clorazepate(benzo)+acepromazine(neuroleptic)+aceprometazine(anti-histamine).....

i take noctran and diazepam... and alimenazine (anti-histamine)

Doxepin and amitriptylin are clearly the best sleep medications I have been prescribed. Antipsychotics zombify, benzos addictify, z-drugs just feel wrong. These have very light if not nonexistant side-effects for me. Although I have now quit all medications except the bupre, if I had to go on sleep meds again I would choose one of these.
