Opioids Long term Tramadol use question.....

I have been taking Tramadol for about 10 years recreationally.

I take either 50mg (or occasionally 100mg) per day, and only on weekends or holidays (never on a workday, but up to 10 days straight on vacation).

I find it to be a fantastic mood lifter and compare it to having a couple of drinks, with the effect lasting all day.

But I'm starting to wonder....could this be giving me a mini-withdrawl every week? I seem to feel "off" more than I used to, but attribute that to age (now 43), lessening of physical activity (though I still am somewhat active), and poor eating habits.

Any opinions about time between doses (in days) in order to prevent addiction or dependency?

Thanks!

JJ

if you're using it sporadically, in those small dosages..
and as a mood lifter..
i'd be more likely to suspect that your difficulties
when not dosing are due to you
being unable to lift your mood well enough on
your own.
psychological dependence can be a bitch like no other..
if and when you stop dosing, it shouldn't take long for your brain
to enable feeling ok all on it's own again.

welcome to BL :)

tbph it could be your chemistry starting to become off due to amount of time used.. or as you said your just getting older and dont take care of yourself. ..you said there was a minimum of 5 days between taking the 50-100mgs doses correct? so i dont think you should feel to messed up from w/ds.

That being said its been 10 years off use and tramadol has SNRI propertise and fucks with ur head on a level during w/ds (and 1000 times longer) any other opiates.

If you're only using about 2 days/week and perhaps a week and a half on vacation...I would say that you're not going through true w/ds...perhaps psychological ones, but unless you've got the runs really badly, you're sweating non-stop, you're a nervous wreck, and your experience more pain than normal, it's not a physiological w/d...

10 years is a really long time to use any substance so you're probably just psychologically dependent a wee bit...

I doubt that frequency/dose would result in dependency. Maybe you should take couple weeks off and see how you feel, otherwise I see no problem regarding your use as it is controlled.

No way only weekends produce w/ds. If you use non-stop during a holiday (2-3) weeks (?) it's possible to feel a little off for a few days when you quit after that. It's not real w/d's though, it's more like a very, very small taste of what tramadol withdrawal can do. It's worse than oxy w/d imo.

^^agree 100%^^

i've read about people who take tramadol for months and months..daily
dosing, and never have any w/d..

i wish i were one of them..tramadol w/d is a tough one for me..

correct me if im wrong, but tramadol is a bastard child of an opiate due to its partial ssri component. if you get hooked on tramadol you are hooked on opiates, and anti-depressants. the anti-depressant WD's are what makes this one so bad. youll be fine. just start taking half a pill for a few days and see how your doing. if all is well keep it up until you think you can kick it and dont use tramadol ever again, i wouldnt even for free, being serious. i had a habit of about 200mg a day, for a few months. i got some celexia from a friend, since its an anti depressant that works when you take it, not like the ones that have to be taken to build up and start working over time, and picked up a bottle of vicodin. Lol by the time i ran out of celexia all i had was a little vicodin habbit, maybe 10mg hydrocodone 2x a day. the vicodin was harder for me to get off, because i really enjoyed it. it was alot more psychological than physical, but i did have a touch of minor wd's for a couple days it seemed. nothing some cannabis and a klonopin wouldnt cure. but its never good to use one drug to stay off another, unless you have very strong self control and DONT FORGET why your taking something else. i learned how to successfully do this, and it sucks sometimes, but once you start taking both to potentiate each other, is the moment you have a bigger problem on your hands.

i got myself down to 100mg every other day for a few weeks, then 50 mg every other day. and pretty soon, i got tired of how it made me feel. and noticed a week went by and was like shit! i better take some, the wd's will get me. but it occurred to me to flush the 37 i had left and not look back. tramadol is a shitty drug if you weigh the slight high and anti-depressant mood lift it gives, to the WD's ssri's can do. good thing its a shorter acting ssri and not one you got taper down over a long ass time. just put some training wheels on your bike and pretty soon youll see they're holding ya back. good luck, ive been there! -aphex
