Hello everyone,
I'm looking for insight into factors relating to continuing my Adderall(prescribed) usage in the long term.
Im especially interested in hearing from anyone with experience in long term adderall use to treat ADHD extending into adulthood.
Basics:
-Ive been prescribed Adderall for ADHD for many years now.
-I do not take it everyday, even though thats how its prescribed. I take it only when needed in order to prevent tolerance and negative side effects.
-I will be turning 18 soon and I am interested in continuing my Adderall usage into my adult life.
-Has anyone who is legitimately prescribed Adderall for ADHD continued their usage into their adult lives?
-Can anyone think of any draw backs to continued usage?
-Can my family doc continue my psychiatrists current prescription?
-Are there any long term health risks to continued amphetamine use?
Background
-Ive been prescribed Adderall XR(and almost every other ADHD med out there) for the better part of 10 years in order to treat my diagnosed ADHD
-Adderall is the med i have found to work best for me
-For about 5 years now I haven't been taking it everyday, I determined that it wasn't necessary and I only needed it on days when I have a lot of work todo and just can't focus or stay on task
-Though I do not take it daily, that is how it is prescribed.
-My current doctor is a Psychiatrist specializing in children, specifically those with ADHD. He operates out of a ministry health organization for the mental health of minors, and therefor can't continue to see me when I turn 18.
-For the past year he has been steadily increasing my dose in anticipation for me turning 18 and him having my family doctor continue my prescriptions(I assume this is his goal, but he never specifically said my family doc)
-More recently he incorporated 10mg of Adderall IR a day that I can take when I feel necessary or when its too late for a XR. He has also said that if I feel like I need a little more help, I could take up to 3 of them.
Im sorry if this is long or doesn't make much sense, Ive just lately become very nervous about turning 18, and want to make sure I'm fully prepared.
Also, as far as the questions about what docs can prescribe, Im fairly certain these do not violate the no sourcing rule, but if they do, id appreciate someone letting me know so I can edit them out.
Thanks to all that reply!

if you didn't continue using it, why?
-If you're prescribed Adderall as an adult, who prescribes it? A psychiatrist or just your family doctor?-Can anyone think of any draw backs to continued usage?
