I'm quite new to this site but I'm wondering if there are any women out there who have had no menstrual cycle since being addicted to either poppy see tea, morphine, codeine, percocets, etc? I haven't had my period in about 10 months and started using poppy seed almost daily for about a year. I am currently tapering off ( this shit is nasty) because it is ruining my relationship with my family, too expensive, yada yada yada. My doctor's are pinning my lack of period to a possible adrenal gland issue. I have done a bit of research into opiate addiction (which is exactly what poppy see tea is plus other gross alkaloids) and have found several sites that link hormonal, pituitary and thyroid problems to extended opiate use. Has anyone else heard of this? I did tell my normal family physician about my addiction so that he could help me get off this stuff and he said "my lack of a period could be related," but that was all. My OB/GYN doesn't know about my addiction but is a much better doctor and is doing all these tests and my next stop is the endocrinologist. I'm trying to get off this stuff to see if my period comes back and my body goes back to being healthy but in the meantime I'm looking for other women who might be experiencing symptoms similar to mine. Its possible the two are not related in my case but the timing sure does match up. Thanks for any help or findings you my have.

It happened to me from extended opiate abuse and I lost a bunch of weight. I didn't have periods for more than a year though I didn't admit to my doctor that I was using. So he put me on hormone replacement therapy because I was 40 at the time. When I quit using, my periods returned. So yes, I think your doctor is right saying the two may be related.
