now i lay me down to sleep
with wide awake dreams that dive and swim deep.
they are dreams not of sex,nor of marriage or of bearing child
they are of love inexorable and inexplicable-tender although never mild.
joy from dreams fades quickly-for i know all good things must end
no matter that i fight like a god to force breath back into all of them.
when something is dead-forever gone-void and empty of love and light,
there are no potions to restore them,no elixir to reanimate life.
into this world we are born dying but in death we are not born again
the same is true of romances and hearts that never mend.
there are souls i thought i truly loved, both male and female alike
not soul mates but rather kindred spirits,just lovers to hold me tight.
i saw them not as different genders,not as something right or wrong
now i feel them as a consequence of listening to my heart's intoxicating song.
