Logic Pro - Discussion & tops

that there is a separate forum for this.......
call Non-electronic music discussion

We know, it seems to be his favorite place..

Seb I'm going to merge this with your other thread because it's really all about the same exact thing.

i listen to old school underground hip hop
i don't sample, i write my own stuff

I'm kind of confused by the "I don't sample". Are you saying you synthesize your own sounds? Because when creating music on Logic or any digital audio workstation , sounds are used from either samples (recordings of live audio) or synths (programs or instruments, usually a keyboard type that create sounds. And if you're creating hiphop, it's likely you are sampling, though I'm not sure.

by the way, writing your own stuff and sampling are not mutually exclusive. You can sample something you played on a guitar. It doesn't have to be someone else's music to be considered sampling.

Yeah StarO-house is right. And perhaps maybe you should read up a bit more on recording music. Unless you plan to write something you will be able to play live time & time again, then you are going to have to resort to sampling. Albeit samples of your own creation or not. Otherwise you would have to lay down a drum beat, probably a bass line too,(which you will also more than likely find your self sampling a majority of that as well) and then play your synthesizer over those layers. You can create a shortcut where you won't have to record yourself for a full 2-5minutes, or however long you want your instrumental track to be if you just create a riff on a keyboard or guitar, remove the segment you feel has the best sound, and then loop it & copy and paste it over the already pre-laid out drum & bass line.

i didn't know that about sampling, my apologies
either way, i like to write it myself, so i can express myself more, it's just my style
and i'm not planning on making stuff to play live, just to get things off my chest and to have fun, that's what i'm doing, i don't care if people don't like my stuff, as long as i'm happy with the songs, that's good enough for me since i'm doing it for me

No, what i do is i basically figure out how i want the drums to sound, the pattern, i write it down
then i find the sound i want for the hi hat, snare and kick, editing the sounds and layering and all that
then if i have a melody in my head, i find a good instrument that'd suit it
i add bass too, and then when the beat is done i find a subject for it, write down some lines that just pop up in my head and i just work on that

then yeah that's how i create the beat, might be an unnecessary process, but that's how i work, it might take longer and stuff, but it works so it's nothing wrong with it
