Yup, Florida. Places do get shut down all the time, and the DEA is actively watching all of them. Recently they threatened action over people sleeping in the lobby; they said because of the DEA anybody who falls asleep in the chairs in the waiting area is immediately kicked out with no warnings, and it's enforced. Also stopped letting people come early.
But all the offices that have been shut down seem to have one thing in common: they give scripts to people who don't have the proper paperwork. People go in just complaining of pain, no x-rays, MRIs, or any other documentation of a legit condition... and walk out with Vicodin, Percocet, Xanax, and sometimes even roxi 15s or 30s. The smart operations require this paperwork, and verify it and ensure it's recent. And almost all of them require patients to be at least 18; some 21, a few 25, and there's one where you have to be 30. It's harder for these operations to get shut down; I know several doctors that have been doing it for decades.
Florida doesn't have mandatory electronic prescription monitoring, and none of the crooked places use the voluntary system.
Of course it's not going to last forever, but there's just so damn many of these clinics and most of them are wising up and covering their asses with paperwork requirements that I probably won't have to worry about not having a doc for at least a decade.
Can you provide some more info on which offices were shut down? Links to stories or at least names/locations?
