I'm in my 3rd year of college and I have smoked before every essay/paper I've written. Not only do I not mind doing the work, but I enjoy my brain interacting with the ideas I am discussing. My writing becomes more expansive and I can see the relationship between different ideas and patterns jump out at me making analysis of more complex ideas easier and more enjoyable. I smoke before in-class essays as well and I've never had a problem remembering course material or anything like that... I used to work in restaurants and I quickly became completely functionable smoking before/during work waiting tables. I've noticed that if you desire to smoke and get completely wrecked, you can achieve that effect but if you desire something else, maybe something that entails leaving your cognitive functioning and memory intact, that is possible as well. I don't smoke as regularly as I did a couple years ago, but I make sure I have some around for papers and other writing that I do outside of school.
