Live fast and die young - orrrr?

in the absence of concrete evidence otherwise, isn't it logical to err on the safe side and not risk pissing off that which can damn you for eternity?

:p
Not really. If a Creator purposefully DESIGNED me with sensory perception and an analytical mind, why should said Creator be angry that I would use those things?

why don't you just ask?

seriously. that's all you have to do. ask and really want to know.

what makes a good student? effort!
i have asked. and i've gotten an answer*. it's hard to interpret the reply, but it has nothing to do with the personal god(s) mentioned in any scripture.

* attaining the "mystical experience" is a big thing for me...

i'm basically materialist, though totally undecided about the mechanism by which consciousness is produced.

thank you for asking sweetie!

how so? hmmm. tough question!

god = love

god is all around you! so is love!

how can you test that? by loving everything!

you don't believe that's logic? okay, here's my logic:

"Truth is what stands the test of experience."

I need a better reason to believe in a god.

"even though the existence of God cannot be determined through reason..."

his thesis is wrong, so of course pascal's wager is wrong!

i have asked.

was your heart open?

if your heart is open, truly open, and you ask, you will get an answer.

i promise. i'd stake my life on it!

"life's the greatest gift, that's why they call it the present."

it's hard to interpret the reply

make sure your heart isn't closed during your interpretation!

1) if you're serious, you have no idea what "logic" means
2) my "heart was open", and those experiences where i seemed to be in contact with something greater than normal reality (mystical experiences) have helped to shape my life and personality

i can see how one could have such a mystical experience, and believe it is coming from a "personal god", and then convince themselves (during or after the experience) it is the god of their favorite scripture...

maybe i don't!

would you say einstein knew what logic means?

if so, why did he believe in god?

you don't think he did?

"coincidence is god's way of remaining anonymous."

he does not say, IF there is a god.

he knows it to be true.

what say you?

1) that's not logical because there was no logical argument to support the thesis/proposition (the quoted sentence). it was a collection of statements regarding your feelings and beliefs.

2) the quoted sentence itself is not logical because different people have such different experiences.

"My position concerning God is that of an agnostic. I am convinced that a vivid consciousness of the primary importance of moral principles for the betterment and ennoblement of life does not need the idea of a law-giver, especially a law-giver who works on the basis of reward and punishment."

I have repeatedly said that in my opinion the idea of a personal God is a childlike one

someone else have a turn!

fwiw i agree with what he said! great quotes! how did you find them?!

<3

sweet p, you next?
you blessed? not yet!
lemme show you,
hold you,
mold you,
grow you!
i repeat my rhymes, but does your heart smile?
is your brain liable?

Yeah. Creepy. I kinda quit paying attention after "faith is logic".

I believe this thread to be irretrievable, and I'm pretty sure it's my fault. Sorry :\
