Lisdexamfetamine (L-lysine-d-amphetamine), marketed under the name Vyvanse, is a prodrug indicated for treatment of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. It was developed by Shire and New River Pharmaceuticals and received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on February 23, 2007. Lisdexamfetamine is intended to provide an option of lower abuse potential, and the results of clinical trials seem to indicate that it is successful. 50mg of lisdexamfetamine contains 20mg of the stimulant d-amphetamine, the well-known abusable Schedule II option; because of its being bound to L-Lysine, this amphetamine is released and activated more slowly as the molecule is hydrolyzed in the digestive system. This delayed release produced less "likeability", less euphoric effect and a later peak time than amphetamine alone in clinical trials, suggesting that lisdexamfetamine may be appropriate for use with patients with history of stimulant abuse. Nevertheless, it is currently up for designation as Schedule II as well.

I'm kind of looking forward to trying it

"less" abuse potential doesn't mean "no" abuse potential. look at tramadol.

tramadol isn't even scheduled!

this doesn't intrique me very much, nor do any stimulants for that matter...

so if its 20mg of d-amph, what else is in it?

This is stated to most likely be for those known to abuse their medication, although most likely this will end up like strattera, as a first option drug, to be supplemented later on by stronger and more potent stimulants.

chalk i would imagine...?
just like how ritalin 10s only have 10mg methylphenidate and the rest is chalk and binder..........

i wouldnt have thought that itd be very hard to do a seperation....?
but i have no real interest in this product anyway so....:\

Curious to point this out. Doesn't L-Lysine make some people have the feeling of sleepiness, so that the value of this pill would be lower than strattera in that the effects would balance out to be less than Adafinil or for that matter a 1/100 strength NoDoz. Pfft...

rulerofthecosmos - 10mg ritalin has 10mg of MPH in it, correct.

so a 50mg pill of this new lisdexamfetamine has 20mg of dex-amphetmaine in it, which is why i was wondering if there are more ACTIVE ingredients, because why is it a 50mg dose with 20mg of active ingredient? Why not just make the pills 20mg?

I'm thinking there are 30mg of some other active ingredient, maybe a non-psychoactive chemical, like l-amphetamine?

I don't know. Calling it 50mg and having 20mg of dexxy in it confuses me.

Im pretty sure they are calling them 50mg because theres 20mg of d-amphetamine, and the L-Lysine binded to it weighs a total of 30mg. 20+30=50

why would it amaze you that pharmaceutical companies as well as governments are aware of the abuse problem and are willing to develop good ways to prevent that abuse?

Its not that they try to do something that amazes us, its the fact they do it in a way that is extreme poor way.

if this was to be marketed as a CIII or CIV stim. I would be excited for it, as I would glady trade off decreased effectivness for having the ability to refill the med. However, it is my understanding that this drug will be placed in CII and refills won't be available, essentially just making a wonderful chemical more difficult to enjoy ... plus, I wonder how the strain on liver is.

It's gonna be a shitty drug, people. Don't worry about it.

Damn straight. Helluva considered opinion you got there. :X

Potential for abuse transcends abuser/prescribee boundaries - especially where 'resulting euphoria' can be linked to i. Speed of administration and ii. Rate of release within the body.

Some of us ADD sufferers DO actually have an attention deficit y'know:\
