Hey everybody. My doctor recently prescribed me 2mg buprenorphine for my opiate withdrawals. After doing some diligent research and also having been on up to 16mg+ daily of bupe in the past, I do not want to start with this high dose as my opiate dependency is very low. However, the withdraws are enough for me to consider using it… anyways he recommended me starting at 2mg for four days and then dropping the dose by 12.5% every four days until 0 mg (fairly quick taper? Only other time I took it was 16mg for a year). He also recommended me breaking it into tiny pieces, but my scale only shows 0.00g. I need it to show to the 0.000g since each pill only weighs approx 0.01 g. I figured that if I mixed the pill with 8 milliliters of water in a syringe than every 1 mL would equal 0.25 mg of buprenorphine. This is the current method I have been able to come up with that seems to work the best for dosing and small increments but I’m wondering if anybody else has either dealt with this issue or has any other/better modalities/ways of administering there bupe? Looking forward to hearing back!

hey anybody have any thoughts? i have been using the "tincture" i made for 4 days now but i'm not sure how much actual bupe i'm absorbing per mL since im not a scientist.. its just water salt and my crushed up tablets (no nalaxone) just curious if i should go back to regular tablets or not... also the reason i tried this was so i could dose extremely low. thanks!
 
I would use volumetric dosing like you have been. I would listen to your doctor and do a taper over a few days to a week.
Have you tried taking less than 2mg and not be sick? Say if 1mg works start there. My old doctor recommended dropping 10% every second day, then when at 30% of the 2mg decrease by 5%. The least amount of time you stay on it the better but if you feel to sick you can taper every second day
 
The generic 2mg pills can be cut in 4 pieces. You can crush and divide 0.5 into a couple small bumps under your tongue

Yea totally I got away with .5mg in the last 24hrs and this is day 4 so tomorrow would be first reduction I guess?... Just had to take a little diazepam also trying to kick a very small dependency there more so mental/anxiety goes up and down more than normal. Wondering though since I got away with less today and that means day one was .75mg day 2 was 1mg day 3 was .875mg and today .5mg… do i stabilize at .5mg for a few more days or do I drop to like .25mg tomorrow?
 
If you feel ok you can drop. You're going to feel some discomfort but nothing bad. But if you're at .25mg and you feel really bad don't beat yourself up if you don't drop again the next day.
You said your habit wasn't to big and suboxone is really strong so you don't want to get dependent on a stronger opioid.
Can you put aside your benzo taper until you're done with bupe?
 
Ok I woke up today with terrible sweats and shakes. I feel the opiates the past month have been giving me anxiety weirdly enough including subs and that’s the main reason I have no choice. Anyways I can try to put aside the benzo taper but honestly I feel I’m in the same boat with those as well. On and off the last couple months up to 40mg of Valium in a day but no longer for a week at a time. Doc just switched me to klonopin but I’m not sure I like. Anyways I guess I’m trying to evaluate where I am base level then go from there. I really just want to feel baseline for a few days or weeks to give my family and especially girlfriend a break from my up and downs. Been going from comfort meds to kratom to pain killers to bupe… not a fun cycle…
 
I couldn't take suboxone because it made my anxiety worse. Listen to your body, if you need a few days with no taper take them.
If it were me I wouldn't taper both at the same time, to much discomfort.
