Liquid Pain Contol

My mom has a blood clot in her leg, she's on Heparin and this blood clot is pretty bad. For Pain control her dumba$$ MD has her on Darvon. She's up nights crying because of the pain. She has had Gastric By-Pass surgery so she can't handle pills very well. I'm looking for a recommendation for an Oral Suspension opiate she could take, and the brand and generic name(s). I know of one. OxyDose - which is liquid Oxycocodone. I'm on methadone but that's too much for her and we're in different cities anyway. Please help and thx in advance.
 
I'd reccomend either the Oxydose you mentioned or perhaps a hydrocodone/APAP syrup. The brand name on that is "Lortab Elixir" I believe. Hope your mother is better soon!

Codeine and morphine are both available in syrup form. A number of painkillers are also available as suppositories, which would bypass the gastric issues. And Fentanyl is available as a patch which also bypasses the gastric issues.
 
thanks, i advised her on the oxydose , she took hydrocodone apap liquid when she actually had the gastic bypass surgery and said it worked well. she's too afraid to ask her doctor for better pain meds. I'll call the doc myself and demand better pain control if i have to
 
They are alot more likely to be willing to try the hydrocodone/APAP syrup due to it being a schedule III.

So i would suggest that, and your mother has been prescribed that before so she should just tell her doc that what shes on isnt working and that the hydro worked well for her.
 
In this instance your mother actually needs to tell them if the pain control isn't working - it could be an indication that treatment for the blood clot isn't working or that she's experiencing complications.

exactly what i was thinking. the fact that the pain isn't being controlled indicates that the blood clot treatment may not be working. She goes the Group Health (eg Group Death) - figues....i'll keep you posted thanks for the info
