Neither. It was a work of fiction.

However, it was based on an actual case involving an adolescent boy rather than a girl (which is kinda interesting in itself as it's so rare to find male exorcism victims). But more in tone with the spirit D) of your post, entirely "the demon's" fault as the victim was supposedly under total control of an other.

But this matters nary a wank as demons don't exist. The boy who inspired the story behind the book/film of The Exorcist had mental health problems. As do all who claim "demonic possession". Well, all who demonstrate it. Most who claim it are Bible Belt goth teens and lil ol' ladies being raped for the passed plate. The whole thing is disgusting. The entire concept of "demonic possession" and "exorcism" is a scourge upon you and yours religion. It ruins lives. It kills people. It's one of a great many reasons why Christianity is evil.

Everytime he's made/issued a pubic statement, either due to the columbine thing, or similar issues, I have to hand it to him, he's usually been spot on, informed etc about the topic

I can understand the cynicism because of the overt image of the man/band but I usually like and respect what he has to say

He covers the "shock rock" angle for the Bible Belt Sep's and their better-informed countryfolk but that kinda shit doesn't work so well over here in Blighty. It's not like I'm saying everyone should be a fan or owt. Taste is personal. But to dismiss him in the way many do (am not just singling out Sammy here - is a very common refrain... especially amongst certain "purist" types) is just plain stupid. I ain't a 15yo Bible Belt teen. Am not even a goth. Nor a grebo. Nor any other such label. I 'd the fella from the moment I actually listened to his lyrics. There is much wisdom there. It comes through better in interviews usually - especially if the choonz ain't yer bag - but he's a sharp cookie and is anything but superficial.

Admittedly, he does turn out some pure filth and some appalling drivel too. Am not defending everything he's ever said or done by any means. But those first 4-5 albums are absolute gold

He's unusually good at covers too. I actually prefer his covers to the originals in most cases. Even when I the original. Cos I'm lazy I'll stick to the same album...

I get yer point though. I was deeply resistant. Was only a year or two older than you and was struggling with the whole concept of metal and heavy gee-tar stuffs in general. Took a helluva lot to get me to listen to a gee-tar based record in those days. Same fella who introduced me to MM also introduced me to Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana (yeah, I refused to listen to 'em initially cos I decided they were poncemusic for tossers) along with stuff ranging from PIL to Pink Fairies, from Crass to Lawnmower Death. From Butthole Surfers to Black Flag. As you can no doubt tell, the fella had taste. Can you blame me for hearing him out? I heard him out. He was right. MM is a god
