Emotional memories wash ashore in wave after wave
I can't control them
They reach the beach, searching the places you used to frequent
Hoping just to touch once again the footprints from our past

There have been a lot of starry nights I've spent
Salty winds licking my face as I look up
Each star a marker, a memory of what we'd shared
Each star a twinkle, reminding me of the way you could look at me
look thru me

I keep a place for you
It's warmed by the sunshine you brought into my world
I think you'd smile with that carefree affection you always showed, and bask in the glow you taught me to share

The cliche that people leave footprints in your heart is true
Everyday since you left, life has gone on,
others passed by me, thru me, leaving their marks
But wind, and tide, and traffic....none of those can erase what you left on me, in me

The sands of my love are infinite, timeless
The waves of my love return on their own tides of joy, remorse, wistfulness, grace
The wind of my love flutters at times and sometimes howls, but never rests
The sun of my love, you will always remain

I love how this was constructed. Just smooth...in and out...like the waves of the ocean. I could almost hear the seagulls as I was reading this.
