I recently acquired some medical grade Lidcocaine for assistance in removing a piece of metal from my arm from a car accident. 2 years ago I hit a pole and a small piece of metal went into my arm, It recently worked its way to the surface of the skin. I was going to inject just under the skin with some lidocaine and remove the metal shard with a razor blade.

I know the risks of using Lidocaine and i know how to inject it safely. I just don't know how to mix it and how much is need. I have 5 grams

this probably sounds shady as fuck but its true, I don't care for doctors and its really not a big deal. I could do it without lidocaine but sense i
already have it and numbing the area would make it easier and more precise i might as well use it.

The piece of metal is not really sharp, as it doesn't hurt and has not punctured the skin. It's directly under the skin so its not like im going to
be digging around in there, just maybe a 1inch incision and some tweezers and ill be all set. It's not deep enough i'll require stiches but if i
do i have the supplies and knowledge on how to do so.

EDIT
instead of injecting it, would it be safer/easier to just make the incision then rub lidocaine into the incision?

I'm going to send this over to Other Drugs as they are the most knowledgeable board for injection.

homeless >>> OD

If you have a new clean needle, medical grade lidocaine preparation for injection, and an alcohol swab or two, then you are pretty much fine to inject a few times around the area and freeze yourself up.

All i have to say is 1 inch is really deep. Might not wanna cut yourself that bad weather or not you can feel it.

Usually lidocaine amploules are 36mg, 20mg/ml. Max dosage for a huamn is 7mg/kg. Avoid injecting into veins or arteries.

Lidocaine gel would work just as well, it's just a local anesthetic.

I use Lidocaine 5% patches by Lidoderm for my back spine. 12 hours on & 12 hours off, it works okay, not special. You on th eother hand are looking to inject it, I hope you do it right & good luck!

Thanks! An yes, I am using a new needle and have all the antiseptics i need. 1 in long, not deep haha. I know how to suture a wound if need be

you will want to be exceedingly careful, as it is unfortunately easy to introduce bacteria into the incision site.

Be aware of the signs of a localized infection; you will want to be two steps ahead of it, in case it becomes infected. Otherwise, best of luck and I hope the removal of the exogenous metal works out well for you.

Please just go get it done properly, i know how annoying it is to have to get a doctor to do something you really do not need him to do, but you're like to just get your shit infected and end up interacting with doctors more than you would have had to if you just went to the doctors, let him slam some lidocaine into you, chop out your glass, 20 minutes later you're walking home.

how big is this piece of metal? if its large or in there weird DIY surgery might not be the best idea.

if you are going to do it, just be really careful. Going to a dr sucks if you dont need to, i mena i have done some home surgery on myself before...i think everyone has.

Please remember sterile technique, and be very careful re: the metal in your leg, if you decide to do this. Otherwise I strongly recommend seeing a doctor - that's the best harm reduction advice you're going to get.
