Librium withdrawal er doc gave ativan

Hi. In short the past 6 weeks I have been in minor librium withdrawal. My addiction psychologist gave me baclofen for sleep/anxiety - all other symptoms were much better. I had a bad reaction to the baclofen and ended up in er with vitals through the roof. Told er doc I can't have benzos as am still withdrawing slightly from librium. He said medically he has to give me ativan injection given vitals. So he gave me two shots over 7 hours there

Of course I felt better. Given my worry about a symptom flare up er doc gave me 10 1mg ativan to use to taper if I got a flare up. Yesterday was second day from hospital and sure enough have flared up. My addiction doc agreed with er doc and said a 10 pill taper is not going to set me back

I took one last night but it did nothing am stopping. Don't feel worse today but still feel about 2 weeks back on my recovery. Will this fix quick or did I really prolong my healing? Thank you

Ativan is the wrong med to taper with, u should use diazepam. U dont seem to have the best doc in the world. I wouldnt use unless absolutelu have to, its a setback.

The dr and the Addiction phychologist dont know a from a bulls arse to be fair! You dont taper down on a benzo addiction using a short acting benzo like lorazepam??. Ideally something like good old diazepam should be used .I would try and point the obvious out to them if i was you complete madness!! :-0

Agreed... most proper detox clinics will use diazepam to taper one off of benzos. I've seen it work with great success. Librium and Ativan are basically interchangeable.. many people in alcohol detox will be on one or the other.. usually librium but if they have liver problems than they will be put on ativan instead. For your case, diazepam would be a much better option. Talk to your doctor.
