So as an ex-heroin addict I have a perpetual love for the opiate-type experience. My pain doc knows I am an addict and will only prescribe Trams. I've been on them for months and have toyed with doses up to 1000 mg. Call me crazy, but yes, 1000 mg. I am not seizure-prone (obviously) but is there anybody out there who can tell me if there are long term dangers to taking doses this large?
Not to advocate or promote the use of such high doses, but 1000 mg of Ultram provides an itchy, noddy-yet-stimulating high that I absolutely love. Withdrawal symptoms are awful, just like any other opie, but I have found ways around that.
That said, can anybody out there give me intelligent data on Tramadol abuse?

I've taken 1000mg a few times. (3 or 4) I throw up and feel sicker than fuck EVERY time! It just gets to the point that NOTHING about it is even CLOSE to fun anymore. I would say try to cut back at least down to 800mg. I'm like you concerning personal risk, and I have found this to be the highest I can take without becoming miserably ill.

don't get it at all, never did a thing to me except liberate some bucks from my pocket. i've read plenty of posts here and it totally mystifies me cuz absolutely nothing happened when i experimented w/ various doses. must be missing that part of my wee brain...

This simply means it's time to move on to stronger things, or hold off dosing till your tolerance can go down accordingly.

Dosing so high not only is a danger, but a terrible way to get into the spin that other snri antidepressants can give you. Such high doses are more of a terrifying wreck on emotions than just a pure opioid agonist.

My advice is to switch to a pure opioid agonist if you wish to continue to abuse opiates.
Your fun is going to hit a stalemate if you keep dosing on such high doses of tramadol.

This is why I say tramadol is not worth the trouble it can cause. It takes on a triple role once in the body. The opioid high only comes after the overwhelming SNRI effects. This will lead to a double withdrawal in effects.

Tramadol to me is pretty much (in effect) Effexor mixed with codeine.

I've tried tram at about 400mg on two occasions and I got a stimulated, happy feeling. Much different than other opiates. To me it seems like more of an anti-depressant.

whats the high like from 1000mg?

Picture a stronger high than you already get.
Might be uncomfortable at first because of the high levels of serotonin and noradrenaline. Then it mellows out to an opiate high, due to it metabolizing.

But 1000mgs on tramadol can be quite reckless on the body, so be careful.

Update: had a grand mal seizure two days ago, with no prior history. My doc switched me to ER on Thursday and I guess toxic levels had accumulated in my body. I'm never taking this shit again. Just thinking about taking it makes me want to vomit.
Lesson learned. Too bad I was an opiate addict and lost my priveleges.

Hate to resurrect an old thread, but its been awhile since I've had net access...anyways,. Mr Blonde, that is exactly why I posted that...it can happen to anybody, regardless of a history of epilepsy or being prone to seizures. IT DOESN'T MATTER PEOPLE. I have never experienced such a frightful event in my whole life, and it was because of that damn tramadol. It really was a big mess--I was outside when it happened, and I was walking alongside a limestone retaining wall. All I remember was feeling very odd, thinking I wanted to sit on that wall, and I blacked out. I awoke in the emergency room with blood EVERYWHERE. I had smacked my face on that retaining wall on my down, splitting my eyebrow wide open, which required eight stitches.
Anyway, all you Ultram gobblers out there, don't fuck around with large doses.

I think the most I've taken is 1200-1300mg, but I'm not sure. It's a nice high, quite sedating, very euphoric and powerful (if you're inexperienced or intolerant of stronger opiates/opioids), but the beginning can make you feel quite nauseous and even later you may have unpleasant spastic arm/leg movements and such. Also, the seizure risk if obviously much higher at such doses.

I would suggest tapering the dose, lowering by maybe 50mg every few days, and bringing it to more reasonable levels where you're not gonna kill yourself.
