Let's talk about eggs

Thanks for the elaboration, rm-rf. Sounds like I should look into this a little further.

my teacher introduced me to the science of food combining

Where are you learning about food combining / nutrition?

eh i live in a city with thousands of chinese ppl. its not an uncommon concept around here. indians have their own food combining sciences too, a bit diff from chinese, but in any event its really just westerners who are ignorant to these things (good lord just look at a british menu!)

I tried a scrambled egg for the first time today. A shockingly tasty scrambled egg, habenero sauce (I put that on pretty much everything, except fruit), ham and wholemeal bread - delicious!! :D:D

Wait, you just tried scrambled eggs... Have you been living under a rock?

A boulder! :(

I'm gunna have a crack at other things on my 'food phobia' list. I am curious to see what cucumber tastes like!

Dude!! Cucumber is awesome, it's one of my favourite fruits. Let us know what you think when you've tried it! :)

^ Cucumber is very cooling, often why you see it served with spicy Asian dishes.

Tasty as well, I've been known to chow down a whole cucumber the same way one might eat a banana :)

^^ Me too!! When I was growing them in my garden (note to self: I must do that again this year...) I would literally pick one off the plant, rinse it off, and eat it like a carrot/banana. So fresh and scrumptious!!

The true art of poaching n3oph7e? Oooh love the swirl with vinegar to get it just right.

Indeed!! I actually don't swirl the water though, and if you just really gently plop the egg in to the water it doesn't explode in to the water because of the vinegar. No swirling required! :)

I have to say the poached eggs I made for lunch yesterday were my best effort to date! They were perfectly shaped and cooked! :)

We do this every year! I like watching them grow and stuff - its fun :) I just had a massive phobia of eating them BUTI just tried one! I must say I am damn impressed - tastes a lil bit like a type of melon I think!

I bet ur eggs were pretty tasty eggs! poaching is a skill I am yet to acquire - I keep getting caught.. haha I am freaking hilarious 8)

I'm really surprised how many people only tried eggs later in life. 8o I can't imagine life without eggs, haha. :)

So yeah, I'm a big fan!

Hard boiled, scrambled, soft boiled, omlettes, sunny side up. Anything!

^ Yeah. I grew up in a fairly eggless household. When I finally started eating eggs, I was like, "where have these been my whole life?!"

Just a quick update on the whole egg situation with regards to relative newcomers.

Just made my first poached egg. I'm not gunna lie, it looked like a desicated placenta. However, it was pretty good! Also had it on my first ever piece of untoasted sliced bread! that was surprisingly good as well.... no wonder people can eat sandwiches.

^^ lol n3o you are my inspriation! I researched em after you made urs... I need to work on shape and 'cookedness' tho...

^^ Ummm yeah, let's not, hahahaha :D
*gags*

wooger, the shape of my poached eggs still look like desicated placenta however I have found that if I put more vinegar in to the water they are more conformed because the egg white congeals faster, i.e. straight away.
Also, 4 minutes is a good cooking time for soft/slightly runny but not totally runny yolks :) How long did you do yours for?

Well...you know where I live :)

I don't think it's an Australian thing to NOT eat eggs. Most people that I know (Aussies) eat eggs.

All of the British people I know eat eggs.

That's about the extent of the nationality of people I know personally :)

Its sad that alot of people are hindered in there diets by there upbringing. A parent wont like a certain food, for example, eggs, and thus never expose there children to it. The child grows up not eating them then when they get older that food is 'wierd' or 'taste fucked' and they dont eat it.

Eggs have always been in my life but my mum sucked at cooking them(no offence mum!). She only really did scrambled and it was quite yuck because it was too watery cause of milk. She also use to cook too much at one go, making them sloppy etc. Some people like it that way i guess. I sure dont, i think its a crime to cook them like that.

I didnt really eat eggs often till i moved out of home and realised 1: They are really cheap and 2: they are really delicious if cooked properly.
