Let's talk about eggs

I have to own up to having one of these for breakfast at least once a year :(

oh man, busty. i think it's a safe bet to say that those things destroyed my sweet tooth as a kid. i didn't have many, i really liked the idea of them and wanted to enjoy them but they are exceedingly sweet. now i seldom eat sweet things.

but anyway, my hardboiled beauties should be done about now, excuse me :D

I'm not sure if this will warrant it's own entire thread but let's see how it pans out...

My story with eggs so far, for whoever is interested and/or bored:
NSFW:
All my life I have absolutely despised eggs. I hate the taste, the smell, the texture, the hassle of the shells, everything. I've only ever occasionally eaten scrambled eggs or an omelette, but only if there's a whole heap of herbs and cheese and stuff in there as well. Even the word EGG gets my skin crawling...

But lately I'm beginning to consider the health benefits (particularly with respect to a good source of protein and weight-loss) that I could get from eating, say, a boiled egg or two for breakfast, instead of just carbs e.g. toast or museli, which is what I eat for breakfast now. Or having a boiled egg for a snack instead of dried fruit or nuts or the occasional biscuit.

My boyfriend absolutely LOVES eggs and when he's on holidays (like he has been for the last few weeks) he has eggs every single day, sometimes twice a day. He left this morning for another 4 weeks (he works away from home) and lo and behold, what is pretty much the only thing left in the fridge when I got home from work?? A half-carton of eggs.

So I called my boyfriend and asked him how to boil an egg. He had to explain the procedure in great detail, because I've never boiled an egg before. I boiled up 4 of them because by this stage I was really hungry. I sat down in front of the TV, de-shelled them, cracked some salt and pepper over them, and nommed my way through FOUR BOILED EGGS!! I've never even eaten ONE boiled egg EVER, let alone FOUR!

I really liked it. Maybe it was just because I was so hungry, or maybe it was the seasoning I put on them, or maybe eggs really are that good and I should've known this all along. I'm thinking this could now be my new healthy snack. I'm going to get a fresh carton of eggs at the shops tomorrow.

tl;dr
I've always hated eggs but I think I've just discovered that I like boiled eggs.

My questions:
If I, say, eat a few boiled eggs per day, could it help me to lose weight? Or could it actually cause me to gain weight? Is it really such a healthy alternative to other snacks or other sources of protein? I know I should be wary of cholesterol, and I plan to discuss that with my doctor when I'm there next. Is there anything else I should know or be concerned about when it comes to eggs?? I am a complete and utter egg noob.

Hey dear it is common said by the doctor's that eat 2 egg's daily and you will be fit and healthy because it assume the proper diet as in a single meal. But it is not said that eat up to 4 boiled egg's in hunger because "Excess of every thing is bad"

if you hate eggs but like hardboiled ones, have you ever tryed 'soft' boiled eggs ;)

get it right and you will thank me..

I tried to poach eggs yesterday night and failed horribly. I think my saucepan was too small since the whirlpool died out. Gonna try softboiling this evening.

Nah man, I have a massive issue with the yolk part. Even the thought of runny yolk makes me gag, let alone actually eating it :D
Thanks though :)

Makes sense. I think I'll have to work my way up to being able to eat runny yolk though. I literally just gagged :|

I've always disliked eggs extremely, I mean I despise them.

However if there prepared in the right way I like them because they are healthy. Anyone got any good recipes? So far it's juevos rancheros with alot of hot sauce. and that's about all i can stomach.

^I never liked the runny yolk as a kid either, but what made it all okay was garlic rice. Our normal breakfast consisted of sunny-side up egg, fish or meat, rice sauteed in garlic, and pickled papaya on the side. I could never eat the egg with white rice, but if the rice was sufficiently garlicky, I would lay it on the mound and squish it, mix it in, and eat it with the fish. With spicy vinegar, of course.

If you don't like rice, maybe bread with garlic? I'm imagining a savory, spicy taste will make the unctuous nature of the yolk acceptable.

Found a recipe awhile back that turned out really good. I eyeballed all the measurements and put significantly more nugmeg and onion powder, but here are the ingredients:

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup torn baby spinach leaves
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • salt and pepper to taste
Beat all together (except spinach--gently mix that in) and fry like a normal omelet.
Try egg in the basket if you like bread and eggs. Additionally, while making egg in the basket, put a piece of cheese on top and another piece of bread (optionally buttered on outside)... After the cheese melts a little, flip and allow opposite side to brown.

Not really the healthiest recipes, but meh, they're good. Enjoy! :)
