Let's talk about BREAKS baby!

wow, the new general midi album is terrible. another one bites the dust.

Really? I quite like it. It's very Hyper-esque. There are some shit tracks but I have never yet found a breaks album that was 100% quality start to finish.

Admittedly I prefer his older stuff ala F.U.N.K. and Breathe but there's some good shit on this. 'Kickbox', 'Misbehave', and 'I,Robot' are fucking wicked.

i thought milton was the best track on the album, but it was released a while ago. apart from that, audio assault was ok, but it never quite got where I wanted it to.

some of GMs older shit was awesome though. I really like his remix of the way out west song. I think it's called apollo. and some of his really old stuff is great too (i'm thinking face like a robot, first day rmx and that sort of stuff).

new rogue element is also abysmal. much, much worse actually.

Yeah the remix of Apollo was awesome. Sounded bloody tough on a big system. I'm not saying it's the best album ever but it's decent imho.

I generally don't buy breaks artists albums though as inevitably there is a lot of 'filler' shit in them. With the exception of Future Funk Squad. <3 haha.

Anyway: Shameless self promotion.

Been getting into prog-breaks lately, knocked this up the other day.

I've heard people use breaks in describing guys like Herve and Krazy Baldhead, but I've never really understood why. Can someone explain, or should I just tell said people they're way the fuck off base?

Lots of you listed names I've never heard of... ?? I feel a little clueless now... :S

Thanks yossarian is sane! for the muzik!
:hump: hump :

The Prog Breaks mix? No worries, got another i'll throw up soon.

Reading through the artists you listed I have a few producers to recommend that are on fire at the moment:

4KUBA
Equalizers
Afghan Headspin
BETA
Eshericks
Karl Sav
Stereo:Type

Those artists are probably a little closer to the older stuff by Aquasky, Breakfastaz & Mutiny in style.

Im just starting to get into this stuff, its really hard to find clubs or parties that play this kind of stuff though, it seems like all they play at parties these days is trance, hardstyle or electro/house...Maybe im not looking hard enough but I have never even heard people in Australia talk about breaks. Dubstep is pretty popular here and people like to compare the 2 which I really dont get, dub isnt something I like, I find it boring and weird, breaks is way better....

Im guessing you aint in Perth or even Melbourne if you can't find anywhere to hear breaks? Certainly in Perth you can find breaks nearly every single weekend from many awesome local guys. From what I see mates have been up to in Melb there is no shortage there either. Recently Deekline, skool of thought, drumattic twins have toured the country, plus a few others that escape memory right now.

I've never heard anyone compare dub step to breaks. Some dub step sounds ok to me, but I wouldn't like to hear it dropped in the middle of a breaks set thats for sure!

Drumattic's recent album hammer and tongs has some sweet tracks on it, been cranking that a lot lately.

Agree with the OP that breaks can often be hit and miss. It's certainly my favourite genre, but there is nothing worse than going to a big breaks party to find all the djs have decided to play electro-house nonsense thinly disguised as breaks! Thankfully that phase seems to be nearly passed.

i enjoy Breakbeat but am hardly fluent in the genre. only thing i have to add is that im seeing Plump Djs next friday and im pretty excited for that. :)
