let's have a writing workshop

Ok so if I understand correctly, first round short stories no specific themes but 4000 word max? If I volunteer to go 4th that would make mine due... 23rd of July?

^correct.

xxxyyy, nice call with mediafire. is the link you posted the draft you want us to workshop?

ForEverAfter, i was thinking we could leave this thread for discussion of how the workshop will continue to work. then a thread for that week's workshop. and then an archive thread that all the old workshops could be merged into. or maybe just move them into the Words archive. don't really care about that last part--a mod decision.

Ok. Happy to facilitate. Separate archive threads are better, I think. Should the user specific workshop threads be stickied you think?

thanks. sounds good. and i would advise against the sticky-ing of the user specific workshop threads. a current workshop will not fall off the first page, and bluelighters are attracted to the bobbing motion that unsticky-ed threads make.

so.. since today is my deadline, where am i to upload my short story?
edit: the link i posted was a rough first draft although i won't be changing much about the story, just correct a few mistakes. if it's okay for everyone else i'll upload the final version onto mediafire again.

Yes, Mediafire has excellent retention! So... ver is ze story? Don't make us cut off your johnson!

"Mr. Hart is not really an intelligent man. He cannot read the Mayan books. He reads them as one who reads Moby Dick to learn about whaling, and to hell with Captain Ahab and the White Whale. Although Mr. Hart certainly doesn't think of himself as a Christian, all of his thinking is in Western Christian, or 'either/or' or One God terms. 'Must be one thing or the other now, it's all very simple. The priests became death therefore they COULD NOT die. Can't leave any loose ends lying about."

-AH POOK was HERE. Burroughs.

people willing to work with the draft he posted? i just checked the first page, and it is not edited. but whatever. it could be a figuring-things-out round.

yeah fuck it. i'll go over it now and post a final version in the next few hours.

edit here's the final work shop version
fixed link

any feedback would be appreciated. here's the final version

"yeah fuck it"? you are posting your story on saturday. monday is next round. don't expect anything more than a PM from a few who are nice enough to read your story and write up some feedback.

Woah, hydro. Chill. This isn't a professional workshop. While I would have appreciated more time, I will still be providing comprehensive feedback. I predicted this would happen. Go with the flow. Be forgiving and understanding. If you need more time to give a reasonable amount of feedback then take more time. It doesn't matter if week one overlaps with week 2, does it?? If this workshop is going to run smoothly we need to be understanding. If there was two per week as I suggested then there wouldn't be an issue. This will happen again so don't fight it.

i'm chill. edging on apathetic. though i just woke up, so i apologize about tone problems.

i have every intention of PMing him with feedback after reading the story. but right now his link goes nowhere. and none of it's making a workshop thread happen. you wanna do two at a time? i'd like to see even one happen. if saying we are going to do more is the trick, fine. i'm currently in the process of writing and scrapping outlines. i will not be ready until the date i signed up for. will you be ready on monday? if so, i concede to two at a time. we can do you and Max next week?

edit:
and in your confidence that we can do two workshops a week when both individuals come through, consider how people jumped at the opportunity to use xxxyyy's rough draft just so we could have any workshop at all.

ah sorry about that. didn't put a proper link in there, was pretty high on a combination of baclofen, alprazolam, clorazepate & pregabalin.

I'll have mine on Monday. Will get around to reading last submission ASAP, although this is a busy weekend.

Where will the feedback go? Weren't we going to have a separate thread for each workshop piece? I agree with hydro about sticking to a schedule better but the preliminary organization is off. We still don't know who all the participants are or what. I already forgot that next round is Monday. Can the PIC please post some type of concrete information? Even if it's just dates and then people can see which dates are free and sign up for their turn. Two a week would be nice in a situation like this where RL interferes with a submission. Anywho, I'm reading through x3y3's now so it would help to know where feedback should go.
