Let's Be Blunt: It's Time to End the Drug War

April 20 is the counter-culture “holiday” on which lots and lots of people come together to advocate marijuana legalization (or just get high). Should drugs—especially marijuana—be legal? The answer is “yes.” Immediately. Without hesitation. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200 seized in a civil asset forfeiture. The war on drugs has been a dismal failure. It’s high time to end prohibition. Even if you aren’t willing to go whole-hog and legalize all drugs, at the very least we should legalize marijuana.

If we're talking about herbs, please legalize the opium poppy as well. I've been hoping to turn my bungalow into an opium den downstairs and a weed box above.

Considering that all previous attempts to solve drug problems didn't work (such as deterrence, etc.), it's really time we try an approach that promises great results (legalization all right as long as we have the health experts saying "Yes, it's okay"). Document all the benefits, get testimonies from health experts, and lay down measures on how the cannabis legalization can work and that any negative results will be dealt with properly unlike how alcohol addiction continues to remain unsolved. Just end the war and once and for all let there be results.
