Why?

Why is it we cant simply all just get along. I mean, we are all human, why can we not simply understand that we are not all the same, we dont have the same opinions, we dont have the same values, but that at the end of the day... we are all just people.. people wanting to be happy, to have food and shelter, and to simply embrace the fact that we all want to live in a world full of peace, happiness and equality,

does anyone disagree?

Why is it we are all competeing against each other as if we are better than one another. we are not. we know we are not. we are simply humans who with the basics, would be pretty fucking happy.

I think about how messed up the world is and any time i try and think of a solution, my answer is 'start over'.

Dont get me wrong, i love ferraris, but if giving up ferraris means the whole world is at peace then fuck... fuck the ferraris,

Bluelight, my question to you is, why can we all not just get along,

Liberals I think. Really, it goes back the liberal revolutions that occured in late 18th century America and Europe and they sought out to destroy any sense of cohesive and sensible society so like their noble cohort, Le Marquis de Sade, could freely enjoy sex with young boys while they made a fortune conducting devious business practices.

because its a survival game we play called life - survival instincts stop us from getting a long I feel.

You surely must be kidding. People haven't been getting along since people have been in existence.

We can't get along because our experiences and upbringing solidify what we think of the world. Everyone's different, in essence.

Because everyone has an axe to grind. That and there isn't a whole lot of room for beliefs so there is mass effort by people to uphold their beliefs and that means putting down others. No matter how respectful you are there is always someone willing to step on you. The trick is to not drop down to their level, but at the same time choosing when enough is enough.

Look at a political map. It's scary how divided humanity is. Then again it's really not because there isn't just one order and everyone should be entitled to practice their customs and whatever else makes them happy.

Look at history and see how the victorious have wiped out the beliefs of the losers. That's what everyone with a cherished belief has in the back of their minds; the possibility that it won't be there tomorrow. Everyone fights for their beliefs. Entire histories of societies have been erased by conquerors. It's always going to be out with the old and in with the new, and everyone wants to renew their beliefs to subsequent generations because they feel their beliefs are important.

Also younger human's growing minds are fragile and can be easily persuaded, so people who want to pass on their belief systems to their children get upset when their kids come across those with opposing or dissimilar beliefs.

This entire post has been based on beliefs, but what are they? Morals, customs, views, goals, ideals, etc. Even though humans share 99.9% the same genetic code that tiny bit makes all the difference between us. Evolution is beginning all over again for humans and specialization is already taking place. People want the descendent of man to carry their belief systems, probably because everyone is ultimately afraid of annihilation because as sure as change we are always being swept into the corners of time. All we leave is our genetic fingerprint.

Sorry, I'm rambling again.

I thinking humanity is getting along quite well because, well, we are still fuckin here on Earth.

I agree. Considering the circumstances it is a wonder that we aren't extinct from nuclear war already.

Seriously since the first man learned to pick up a stone and smash it on some other dudes head people have been killing and hating each other.

People like drama. It entertains them. Although when asked most say they would do with out violence and problems, the reality is that's what keeps people going. Gossip makes the world around. That's why we watch people go through problems on screen and not just live great unproblematic lives. The point is, people want to have problems with each other in order to keep things interesting.

Well, sort of. I do think they caused a lot of upheavel that still leaves society lost and in pain, and paved the road for fascist dictatorships and other totalitarian government.

Well, of course it goes back further though!

However, I do think for the most part, we get along more often than not, even in these fucked up times. Certainly our survival instincts would point us towards getting along with fellow humans rather than pissing them off, because nothing can be more dangerous than another human who wants to kill you.

I put this in the same schema as that "why aren't we happy all the time" thread.

Those questions are just cop outs for own personal short comings. Thats a mean way to put it but its simple.

It always tries to set some moral prerogative. Its a instinctual human trait to try and control their environment (which we are damn well at doing physically) but it is the mental extension of that trait where people fuck up. People always wanna set up rules for other people to follow. People need to set up rules for themselves, not tell other people what rule (I'm using rule as synonymous with "perfered way of life for others" for a more colluqiually simple experssion for some of yall) to go by.

Its a nice notion for everyone to get along but then that takes away alot of what it is that makes us human. I didn't really wanna get into the evolutionary perspective because I saw a good amount of people that made knowledgeable post from that perspective, but its all some mechanism for survival (Now on a individual to species perspective who knows really? haha).

Every single culture has some military tradition. Its contribution to the mediums of culture are incredible. Next to "religious" themed art "war" was probably the second most depicted theme for most of history. To say "lets all get along" is to say "everybody should be an atheist". Both parties wanna deny central aspects to being human (and, well, being a mammal in the former). The difference between us and a mammal doesn't matter.

whateveah i'm kinda drunk peace out bl its fireday

Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.

"That's rather cynical"

"It would be if it was doctrine, but it's merely an observation on the nature of reality."

^The Hashishin had things figured out for sure.

I don't know the legit history too well, but from playing Assassin's Creed you get the vibe that they're definitely the guardians of society. They know both good and evil, but they claim allegiance to neither. An ideal stance, imo so I agree. Figured things out for sure.

this reminds me of John Paul Satre: "Hell is other people"
and Rousseau: something like "man is born free, but is enslaved by other men"

"Man makes law, not law makes man." - is from my mom.
"Through conflict comes positive change" - Mao Tse Tong.

My personal belief egos clash, hence disharmony and competition. We would all just get along if there were some evolutionary benefit to us. (like that are bacterial colonies that favor cooperation over competition for survival) So social harmony is contextual and possible, though idealistic.

No one really does know their history that well. Unlike most people I knew of the Hashishin before that game ever came out. And although I enjoyed the game I feel like they went a little sideways when they went with the whole sci fi thing. But yeah they had shit down from what I do know about them.

Apparently they assassinated Christians as well as Muslims. They even threatened the life of Saladin leaving a dagger beside his pillow and scared him enough for him to withdraw his army.

TO many people say they want to get along when they really expect you to assimilate. That's why we cannot get along.

^so true. That's why alisdair keeps calling me a troll - not because I'm intentionally out to fuck with him or anybody else on here, it's just because I don't assimilate to his way of thinking.
