Shammy is right, context is important.

My Grandpa was a white Rhodesian, who then moved to South Africa when the shit hit the fan there, before moving to the UK & retiring back to SA. So, he falls into a similar category really. He was not a cunt. We have white friends who lived in South Africa who weren't cunts too. I've met many white South Africans in the 3 times I have been over there & none of them were cunts. In fact, I have never personally met a white South African in South Africa who was a cunt... I've met some in this country who are though. I think 'most' is really taking it a little far...

However, it is true to say that some white South Africans are cunts. Some of my Grandpa's friends at his local golf club stopped talking to him for a month or two because he played a round a golf with one of the black kids who was well known at the club.

The problem with a generalization, is it reflects badly on the others regardless of the fact you acknowledge some are perfectly reasonable people.

The last thing you want to do is reinforce an out-dated stereotype...
 
What you say all makes sense until you drop in the thing about your grandpa's mates dingying him. That's where the deep racism of South African people shows. Not all of them obviously, clearly not your grandpa, but a significant amount or that wouldn't have happened.

I'll try to explain what I mean but I'll probably make a cunt of it. If my grandpa was to play golf with a black kid it wouldn't be a thing at all. If anyone did make some sort of an issue out of it, like not talking to him because of it, then they would be practically shunned by everyone else. No-one at that golf club would be talking to, or playing golf with, with those mad racists. I think they would be barred tbh. I'd be willing to bet, although I might be wrong, that it was perfectly acceptable for them to be so racist.
 
The key word I said is 'out-dated'... it was a problem in my Grandpa's generation and those before...it may still be around but it isn't the status quo anymore.

Those of my Parent's generation or ours, really are nice folk. Sure there are some young South Africans who are cunts but the same goes with some folk here... the country really has made significant progress but there were still be remnants for a long time to come I'm sure.
 
I think Oscar showed his arse yesterday - saying "a low tone" instead of a whisper and that "get the fuck out of my house" bollocks.
 
I do wish the judge could tell OP to stop talking in that quiet, quavery, whiny voice though. Fair do's I've never shot my girlfriend and had to speak in court about it - but it's been going on for like a month and his voice still had a constant tremble even when he's talking about doors and fans. Blatantly put on and just not needed.

I also wish coverage of the trial was banned from news channels, except for maybe a small slot during the day.
 
The prosecution lawyer is very good at ripping apart Oscars story, he is a real pitbull and I certainly wouldn't want him against me.
From what I have watched of the court proceedings so far it it really does not seem the Oscars story is how the situation went down.

I have to admit, since I was on here feeling sorry for the prick, I've changed my mind a bit. It does actually seem as if he's supping on the courts pity. Milking it. Not cool.
 
You wonder how long he had this "i shot an intruder" story in his mind - did he just think of it on the spur of the moment after he shot her or has he been thinking about how best to carry it out for a while. That motherfucking junkyard dog of a prosecutor says he shot her once aiming at the toilet, then heard her fall down and knock over a magazine rack so he altered the direction of his aim to fire lower.

He's definately talking bollocks tho - Nel suggested something about "Didn't you go to the balcony and look?" and Oscar goes "Yes I did" and Nel said "Are you saying that because I've just suggested it Mr Pistorious?"
