I'm doin an essay for my English comp class regarding the reasons why prescription narcotics abuse is on the insane rise in the past few years. I've googling for hours for statistics on any kind of numbers of say certain medications prescribed more often than others, the amount of narcotics an average doctor gives out in a year, the most often occuring reason for the scrips, etc.

I've been an avid reader on bluelight for a while now, first time I couldn't find a question already answered lol..help?

Well, the reason I started abusing prescription narcotics is because the stated dose for codeine (60mg) gave me a nice high. The only drug I'd taken before was weed, so I had no tolerance of any kind. It was the best feeling I'd ever had. Fast forward 11 months, and now I take ~500mg once or twice a week. It hardly does anything for me anymore, but if I try to increase the dose to keep up with the tolerance, I get only an increase in the side effects (histamine release) and none of the desired effects.

I'm afraid I don't have any statistics or related websites that would help, but that's why I think abuse is on the increase anyway. People get fucked over by thier employers, the government, even their friends at times... if they can feel awesome by taking a pill which is presribed to them by their doctor then why the fuck not?
