You're awesome! :)
Thought it was just runors until I saw the news today. The claim "we'll deal with cannabis as we do with tobacco and alcohol" blew my mind. $xxx an ounce.... this has me so happy! I really hope the bill pasts! :)

Thoughts?

The nanny state that tells you what to eat, forces you to vaccinate your children, and randomly illegally stops citizens on the street for no reason?

Don't count on it.

Those were all Bloomberg initiatives applying to NYC, and he's done as mayor now.

You should provide a link. This is awesome and should happen in NYC, though I'm not sure about how it will affect neighborhoods, or more specifically the drug dealers in those neighborhoods, they will have to change product. Washington heights already has really good weed so they would HAVE to make the weed much cheaper, but cheaper works for me ;).

I heard about this initiative from some of my friends...but I'm pretty sure that the governor, Andrew Cuomo, is completely against weed legalization in any form, right? I mean, that information alone has me doubtful that it would pass while he's still in office.

Although I don't live anywhere near NYC, I do live in an area where there's a huge contrast between city and more rural life...although legalizing weed might catch on in NYC proper, I couldn't really see up-state NY going with it, but I might be completely wrong.

It would be interesting if NYC legalized it.

It wouldn't change anything for the better though in the immediate term. Just like what happened in Denver when Denver voted to legalize possession, the police will likely retaliate and arrest more people until state law changes.

That said, Denver's legalization of possession for adults was a huge driving factor in the passing of the Colorado state bill for retail marijuana as it showed that the voters supported it.

Seriously Seyer? Removing the point that the city of NY will charge $50 tax per ounce isn't exactly the advertising the price of drugs.

On Dec. 11, Sen. Liz Krueger stood on the steps of City Hall and unveiled a bill to legalize marijuana in New York State, flanked on either side by politicians and marijuana advocacy groups.
The Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act (MRTA) would regulate marijuana much like alcohol is regulated, allowing anyone over 21 to purchase up to two ounces of weed, anyone over 18 to possess it, and hosting a $50 excise tax per ounce.
The bill would also allow anyone to grow up to six marijuana plants at their home.
“Prohibition of marijuana is a policy that just hasn’t worked, no matter how you look at it, and it’s time to have an honest conversation about what we should do next,” Sen. Krueger said. “The illegal marijuana economy is alive and well, and our unjust laws are branding nonviolent New Yorkers, especially young adults, as criminals, creating a vicious cycle that ruins lives and needlessly wastes taxpayer dollars.”
