CORPUS CHRISTI - Another product that simulates the effects of illegal drugs is gaining popularity at some local smoke shops. the tablets are sold at the shops as herbal plant food but some buyers are consuming them to get the same effects as taking ecstasy.

after the sudden rush of popularity for "smoke-able incense" like spice and k-2, it seems that there's another option for those looking to get a legal buzz.

the kids seen in this YouTube video are high, but they aren't breaking the law. Before the cameras got rolling, they took one or two tablets of a herbal ecstasy called X-4.

There are many versions of the tablets, some called Doves, others Diablo. But all of them seem to have the same draw for customers.

"It's a different way for people to experience euphoria that's known by other illicit substances which in my book is just as dangerous as anything else," said Janousek.

At the Palmer Drug Abuse Program, rehab counselor Frank Janousek has seen his fair share of drug-related problems.

"Marijuana, alcohol, heroin, methamphetamine, ecstasy."

He tells us the growing popularity of such products opens opportunity for testing out other illegal drugs.

"One thing's going to lead to another. That experimentation thing that's how kids get started," Frank said.

I swear you don't need to know about drugs, drug use patterns, or the history of drugs to be a counselor at a rehab facility. It seems the only requirement is to support the whole 12 step disease model and the governments view on drugs and addiction

"There's a lot of things that aren't against the law that are damaging to our bodies. Ingesting just dish soap isn't against the law but you don't want to do that because evidently it will cause some serious problems for you,"

I always found it funny in a sad sort of way that you can legally consume many things that can do damage to yourself and your body, yet substances that are safer to consume are illicit and will land you criminal charges to put into your body

I agree. Look at the various research chems that have very little study and are unscheduled and then the various scheduled (illegal drugs); weed, mushrooms, LSD.

We know the most about the illegal drugs effects, side effects, toxicity levels, etc. Yet their illegality may steer drug users towards the unscheduled chemicals.

The tried and tested drugs should be legal!

Edit: No sourcing. Even if you're joking. Continuing to do so will lead to a ban. -phrozen
