This is Jersey

Saturday 6th October 2012, 2:50PM BST.

A ‘LEGAL high’ which was linked to the death of a teenager in Jersey has been banned.

Matthew Wing (19) died earlier this year shortly after taking the stimulant-style drug Benzofuran, also known as Benzo Fury.

The drug, which is readily available on the internet, was made illegal by the Health Minister last week and given a ‘B’ classification, a move which sees Jersey act ahead of the UK in controlling the legal high.

Dear god these people are stupid. Benzofuran is the heterocyclic skeleton of 6-APB, there is nothing psychoactive about it. Its a totally barebones, unfunctionalized heterocycle. Why do journalists never get chemistry shit right? All they have to do is look at wikipedia.

I dont understand how being linked to one death means banning it. Hundreds of people probably die from paracetamol, or sky diving or every other legal activity.

I dont actually know figures here, Im just certain more than one person has died doing absolutely anything, and they havent been made illegal.

I heard that more deaths happen at home than anywhere else (might have been accidents, i dunno), I'm amazed we're still allowed them!

If the UK are going to ban it, they'll put it on that temporary class first i reckon, giving us plenty of time to panic buy and stock up

All the while this one death has happened (in how many doses? I'd imagine hundreds of thousands), the elephant in the room remains... How many people per 100,000 users does 6-APB kill compared to Alcohol?

Sadly I don't think this has much to do with health protection any more, but something else is at play.

thought this was talkin bout the US when i read the title

sucks tho cuz most 6 APB vendors are outta the UK, although most UK vendors dont ship to the US i still see this possibly affecting 6 apb availability in the US, ill be sad to see it go, it was a good drug, not a great drug but it was good

I've always wanted to try apb, as it compares to mdma. I also thought this was in the US, I forget there are other jerseys elsewhere in the world. haha

Don't forget this chick -

'£10 legal high made me parade naked through Tesco': Teenager went on the rampage and karate-kicked policeman in the face after taking Benzo Fury

Katie Wilson, 19, paraded through the aisles like a 'catwalk diva' as she went on a 'terrifying trip'

The 'decent' BMW driver was mistaken for a heroin addict by police

This all ties back into why they should just legalize drugs. I bet a lot of people prefer the chemical that research chems attempt to "mimic"

There are some RC gems out there but most people I know do prefer actual weed to synth blends, for example. Where one is really safe, the other, not so much.

Jersey has stated that they have criminalised Benzo Fury "as a precaution". Nice one Jersey criminalise your young people just in case eh? It's not like a criminal record would Fuck their lives up is it?
