Legal challenge questions reliability of police dogs

It's been known for a long time that a lot of sniffer dogs simply react to a command given by the owner to "detect drugs".

Fuck the police.

The newest problem to be faced is drug wasps, they can be held in a black box with around 20 or so of them, so as to eliminate anomalies, they can be trained stupidly fast and have a very high success rate with little to no cost. I think the biggest problem they're going to find with legitimate drug detectors is the fact that all the money stinks of various powders and there's going to be so many false positives they will just go back to the old fake drugs dogs.

There's a nat-geo article about it here: http://news.nationalgeographic.co.uk/news/2005/10/1027_051027_bombsniffwasps.html

Everyone knows, lawyers, police officers, judges, knowledgeable citizens have known "drug sniffing dogs" are nothing more then a tool to illegally search peoples cars.. It's so obvious that its almost ridiculous, but now the cops have an even easier and faster trick to get into your car without a warrant; "I smell an odor of marijuana coming from inside the car, please step out sir/ma'am"

But the one thing everyone is forgetting is 15% of the time it works 100% of the time lol....if the cop wants to dig around and use a dog as a pretext they will. I cant say i have ever heard of them bringing a drug dog out and then not findinng anything saying sorry and letting them go. I see lots of stuff when driving on I95 like a guy in a beater lookin car with a k9 unit and like 6 cop cars, guy sitting on the road cuffed while they rip apart his car. See lots of multicop stops on 95 since the dea designates it as a high intensity drug trafficing area.

Not forgetting the fact that drug residue gets pretty much everywhere. I'm not sure the percentages, but a significant proportion of banknotes have cocaine residue; plenty of "just" cause is sitting right in your wallet...

^ damn right. These fuckers only need the flimsiest of pretexts; using an unreliable tool creates huge margins for error, making it all the easier to "justifiably" search somebody. It's like a rigged game.

Hey man, i'm sorry if this is incorrect but i'm not sure you get it, the study is concluding that the owners are triggering the dogs, not that the dogs are unreliable :)

Yeah I hear you, but I wasn't really referring to the study, more the police mindset in itself. I actually missed the part that the police are triggering the dogs- this is no surprise to me whatsoever.

I know for a fact that police sniffer dogs can be extremely effective at what they do; a friend was busted - he had 0.2 grams of H very well concealed in his flat...no chance the pigs would have found it without their K-9.

Yeah, I'm starting to think that they only train certain dogs for raids etc and leave the ones on the street untrained...

I think they have different dogs for different purposes. There are drug dogs, dogs that can sniff out money, firearms, explosives etc, then they've got the attack dogs, not sure which breed they use, but those things are scary fuckers.

Tbh, the whole scary german shepherd technique isn't great, i'd be more scared if i saw them with a bloodhound because then I'd know that it defo was trained!

Yeah, I see what you mean: they tell them to grab your arm don't they? Now, if I saw them with dobermans or Rottweilers I would just surrender straight off...

I think there's a type of whistle you can buy though that plays a tone that can't be heard by human ears, but drives dogs crazy: they HATE it. I wonder if that'd stop a police "hunter-killer" dog from trying to tear your arm off...?
