yeah that was LeBron James's most dismal playoff performance ever! the good sign is that Cleveland was winning most of the game, and only lost by what? three points or so?

you seem to have missed the fact that LeBron James is in the Eastern Conference Finals while Kobe Bryant is sitting at his crib playoff NBA2k7 ;)

i thought this was an argument of who was the better player, not whos on the better team. being in the playoffs dont mean shit when looking at individual performance. dirk nowitsky is the mvp, and we all saw what happened to his team in the first round. its true lebron has the potential to be great (maybe even better than kobe), but in the mean time everyone, including him, acknowledges the fact that kobe is currently the best player in the nba
 
^^Matter of opinion. I think it takes more than just personal stats to be viewed as the better player. Lebron not only elevates himself but he also elevates his team. In fact, he would rather be the guy being double/tripled teamed so his fellow players can score. Kobe is ALL Kobe.
 
kobe is ALL kobe because he has to be. he wants to win. he has to take over games in order to win simply because his team cant. kobe averaged 5.5 assists this season, he was trying to get his team involved, but the other players just couldnt get it done. kobe would take double/triple teams, and still score 30-40 points, which is more impressive imo
 
^^Dude, your post just reiterates the reason why Lebron is the better player. Would you want to play on a team where the star player hogged the ball so your team could win? Doesn't say much for the rest of the team.
 
yea...actually that would be saying that lebrons on a better team, which i admit is true (mostly due to inexperienced/ injured players on the lakers), not that lebrons a better player.
 
^^It's easy to sit and watch the entire play once its over. Lebron was doing what he thought was right. Unfortunately, the play didn't turn out as he had hoped. The series is not over yet.

I'm hoping his teammates will rise to the occasion. He's not the only one who can be the game winner.
 
i say an open donyell marshall from beyond 3 point is better than a 50% shot

going into overtime on the road is less than a 50% chance

percentagewise, i think he made the right choice.

you could always argue he should have been able to put his team on his shoulders and won it overtime by himself. but hes not jordan...yet

If you want to compare them at the same age, then I guess you could give Lebron the edge, but basically this is a non-argument until Lebron does something with all his hyped talent.

Does Lebron's opinion matter? He's been quoted as saying Kobe is clearly the best player in the league.
 
Well, he had the opportunity for the game closer again tonight. He took it himself and missed. So that's 0 for 2. He was clearly affected by public opinion. He is not transcendant. He is not amongst the greatest players of all time, yet. Granted, he is only 22, but Kobe IS amongst the best players of all time; he is transcendant of time and media.
 
At what point does the fact that this thread even exists become comical?

There are (at least) tens of millions of basketball fans.

Many of them hate Kobe, for various reasons.

Many of them love LeBron, for various reasons.

If, hypothetically, you removed all of the Kobe-haters and all of the LeBron-lovers (and, to be fair, also removed all of the Kobe-lovers and all of the LeBron-haters), there would still be MILLIONS of basketball fans who could give an impartial opinion, and I would argue that EVERY SINGLE ONE of these MILLIONS of people would, if their respective lives depended on it, choose to have Kobe take a potential game-winning shot rather than LeBron.

Every single one of them.

And The Clutch Factor is NOT something that you learn in your mid-twenties.

Either you got it or you don't.

Magic, Larry, Isiah, MJ and Kobe all CONSISTENTLY showed how clutch they were in their TEENS and early twenties - at the highest levels - either in the NCAA Tournament back when that sport used to matter, or in the NBA.

LeBron turns 23 early next season, and despite his flashes of brilliance in the first 47 minutes of games, he still has absolutely no confidence in his ability to win big games in the final minute at the game's highest level.

Face it, folks - he's a souped up version of Tracy McGrady - Basketball's answer to A-Rod.

You're right LL; Lebron was trying to draw a foul with that last drive, he was not trying to win the game. He would have rather gone to the line and made 1/2 than pull a clutch jump shot.
 
Wow, I just had a heated argument about this tonight at a party with some knowledgeable NBA fans.

I think Kobe is definitely better. Neither star has any kind of supporting cast, and if the Lake show were in the East, I think they would have made it as far as the Cavs have.

I'll take Kobe when you need a pressure shot, no matter who is covering him, or what the situation. I'll take Lebron going to the basket; he is seriously an unstoppable linebacker/man-child taking it to the hole.

Lebron, in my opinion, still has a playground jumpshot; fading away, even while covered. This is a huge negative for me. While he hits the occasional clutch shot, he also forces some awful fadeaways while covered.

I'll give Bron a slight advantage when it comes to distributing the ball to his teammates, but sometimes he tries to do this too much. Kobe had improved drastically in this category.

Lebron may be the best pure athlete ever to play the game, but Kobe has a bit of natural talent too. ;)

Kobe is definitely a better defender.

I think Lebron is gaining that superstar mentality when the game is on the line, but Kobe already has it.


Overall, I'll take Kobe at the momen, but if Lebron develops a legit jumper, he may be the scariest player ever to lace up high tops.

I know it is sometimes ridiculous and worthless to compare players across generations, but Kobe is the closest player I have ever seen to the immortal Michael Jordan.

My top 5 in the NBA are (if anyone gives a shit:)):

Lebron
Kobe
Wade

LeBron is becoming a phenomenal player EVEN IN CRUNCH TIME in front of our very eyes.

He's still not on MJ or Kobe's plane yet, but this past week, LeBron is finally beginning to show the clutchness that I didn't think he had in him.

did you see lebron tonight? I forgot to add I'd take lebron in the last 12 of regulation and even more so in 10 minutes of overtime, should cases like tonight occur
