Large 'Wine Colored' blotches after IV heroin - No Pain or Itching

I'm having a very strange and somewhat frightening experience after IVing heroin yesterday for the first time in about 8 yrs. The injection site was on my foot, the shot was smooth and made me feel euphoric and slightly flighty - seemed like a nice "treat" - until I looked down at my foot and lower leg maybe an hour or so later to find it covered with large wine colored blotches, they begin close to the injection, though none are on it! Around the top of my foot/ankle is a large rectangle and it becomes large circular blotches, that get smaller as they go on up to where they stop - side of leg, the height of just behind my knee. There really is no discomfort associated with this although when I actually rub it, there is a slight pins and needles sensation. After taking a warm bath last night, the blotches seemed lighter, so I was feeling optimistic - but as of tonight the color is back to 'wine color'. I have not been able to find information on this anywhere! The injection did not feel like a miss in any way - and the blotches are not raised at all! They are smooth. No 'hives', bumps of any sort, and no pain or itching either. I have no fever but did have moderate nausea for about 15 mins after the injection , and a bit of nausea here and there a couple of times in the next few hrs- again nothing unusual - esp considering it's my first fix in about 8 yrs. I know that sometimes there can be bleeding under the skin after an injection - but this is not connected - a blotch around the ankle - then intermittant blotches on up to below knee level. I had been taking a good amount of alka seltzer for the three days prior to using the heroin, and I realize that products containing aspirin can make you bleed more freely. The best description I can give to these blotches is that they look like a dark colored rosacea, or the large, dark wine colored birth marks some people have. Some areas are quite solid, while some higher up look 'snowflake-esque'. I'm a relatively healthy woman in my mid 30's. I will use drugs to party occassionaly - but there is nothing I use on a daily basis. I'm feeling 'blah' today, but that's nothing weird after a day of partying. Plus the worrying has me depressed a bit. I would rather not go to the Urgent care for this - but if I was experiencing fever or pain I surely would - because this really looks strange! Keeping my fingers crossed that somebody out there has some insight on this!! Thanks so much for your time!

You were right, Birc0014! TY for the input! It was the blood - the needle may have went through the vein while trying to register - also, the possibility of removing the needle too fast, and not applying pressure after! Lesson learned! Never rush it!! Take your time and be safe!

Don't inject into your feet or hands. If your crooks are gone and dead, it's time to hang up the rig before you ruin every vein in your body, as most of them are much harder to iv into and collapse really easily unlike your elbow crooks which are nice and big and can be used for years as long as you always use a new syringe each shot, and keep all your stuff clean and sterile while setting up a shot, use proper technique and avoid iving drugs that require fiend redoses all day like coke.

Thanks for the good guidelines pbuilder! I'm really good at hygiene, personally and with my kit. A friend fixed me up and hit me at a party. It was my responsibility to watch them, watch how they prepared it, etc, and I didn't - which was entirely my mistake and looking back I'm quite fortunate all I got was some red blotches for a few days. I haven't used heroin in about 8 yrs so I'm extremely grateful, not to mention lucky that my friend knew and remembered my tolerance was pretty much gone! My arm veins aren't screwed up at all - but they are really small and hard to see, so it seemed understandable he used the top of my foot - I have big, visible veins there - but after this experience I'll be steering clear of using them. It was so weird! Never saw anything like it before and don't want to repeat it!
