Lamictal/Gabapentin/Meth 2gether--safe ?

I have been on ( off and on ) neurontin gabapentin for 2 & 1/2 years . I have used Crystal Meth many times w/o a problem as well, however I am supposed to take Lamictal now ( 25 mg a day 1st week and 50 mg a day after that and contin. ) I am not full blown Bipolar , but whether on or off any kind of drugs I go through a cycle of x number of weeks,
kind of like a (nondigital ) clock with 12 oclock (north) being very confident happy sociable energized and creative and 6 oclock (south) being dark, tired and utterly misanthropic, with anger at self, crying at 6 AM etc. so

Lamictal is supposedly going to possibly end that harsh cycle.

I could NOT ask my DR "when I get on this Lamictal ( maybe 2nite ) and Ive been on it , and my neurontin, what would happen if I had a few days of meth use ? Is there a contraindication there ?"

I cant mention recreationals to my DR.

so I am asking anyone here,
since many here
know more than the scriptwriters do anyway .

I personally am now on a low dose of Sodium Valproate (500mg), and a low dose of Dex-amphetamine (5-10mg) a day, which is working really well for me, and my 2 best freinds are on higher doses of Sodium Valproate (2000mg) and Dex-amphetamine (20mg), and it is working REALLY well for them, after both being on a crazy emotional roller coaster from a very young age. (They are both bi-polar/ADHD types)

You should try this combo, then you will not even want/crave meth which IS EFFECTING YOUR MOODS, whether you admit it (or not) to yourself.

ps. i am not full blown bi-polar either - at most a mild bi-polar, and mild ADD, but the drugs TOGETHER work very well, and has totally stopped my binge drinking and/or recreational drug taking which got out of hand the last 6 years. Time to stop!

Dr Beat thanks for the rational feedback. You said I should "try this combo" ( valproate and Dex amp) but I should explain that my experience in this city is that you pretty much try the things your Drs are willing to have you try and report back and they may or may not let you try other meds. so I have to give this one a shot first ( the Lamictal , which i just took this morning finally ) and after a couple weeks I will report back. Until then, belive me, I will be doing my best to stay away from meth.If this stuff does not help me stop the emotional pendulum from swinging so far to and fro , I will ask her about the meds you are on and hope she says sure I can give them a try.

I feel I will always maintains that people who are bipolar should not take amphetamines recreationally, it's not a good idea.

What do you take the gabapentin for?

yeah well , I can not disagree with your maintaining that BPs should not amp recreationally. I'm not considered truly BP ( but more of a cyclothymic-- i think that is the term ) but might be nearly as unwise since my ups are very up and downs are ,,,,,etc.
The Gabapentin is for bound nerve pain in a crack on the back of my skull
( which occured oct 1. 03 )-- from a major hammer blow/mugging/beating/brain hemmoraging etc . but the gabapentin only stabilized my mood for the first year and a half or so. Now it does stop pre-precipitation pain in the skull crack , which is great, but I plan to try dropping it soon anyway. as for my Q. re: mixing meth and Lamictal , well , I am so far managing to NOT use meth , but the instead, mope around listlessly . so .... so far , so good. Thanks .

But, besides the bipolar, there is nothing especially bad about mixing lamictal (lamotrigine) and methamphetamine.

I feel that mentally ill people in general should not use amphetamines recreationally. Just my 2 cents…
