Does L-tyrosine replenish dopamine after amphetamine or cocaine use without desensitizing the receptors? I have seen many conflicting answers but no studies to back them up. Any specific studies that prove one or the other?
Why do you think it would desensitise the receptors? I have taken Phenylalanine and tyrosine at times when stimulant use was high and sustained causing dopamine depletion and preventing eating the correct food that contained these precursors and the only desensitization I received was most likely from the tolerance I was building up to the stims by heavy use.
It shouldn't desensitize the receptors because it doesn't cause a release of dopamine nor does it prevent dopamine reuptake, it simply helps replenish the amount of presynaptic dopamine.
I heard you have to take L-Tyrosine on an empty stomache (preferably first thing out of bed) otherwise its not effective (ie with a full stomach). Is this true??
Amino acid therapy reportedly works when a single amino is taken on an empty stomach so that it is streamlined into the blood. When protein is consumed, each amino acid in the spectrum competes for absorption. The idea is that taking an isolated one will optimize its level in the blood.
