According to the book 'the case of the frozen addicts', the original victim of DIY drug synthesis was one Barry Kidston. Now, he was given L-DOPA but had to be switched to something else because he was abusing it 8o Just how the hell do you get high on that? Does it just increase overall dopamine levels or what?

I guess yeah, it just increases dopamine levels (especially in the brain). Maybe they confused it: Not due to abusing liability (misunderstanding?) but because of long-term sideeffects DOPA isn't always very welcome...

doesnt L-DOPA have to do something with Parkinsons?
Check Wiki for this... DOPA is the precursor of dopamine, used as Parkinson remedy, because it passes BBB (in contrary to dopamine itself).

ahh... did some reading on MPPP and Barry Kidston

An unfortunate footnote: Barry Kidston did recover temporarily as a result of the L-Dopa therapy, but as tolerance began to set in, he became depressed, and one day sat down under a tree and took a fatal dose of cocaine. It is suspected this overdose was intentional, but no note was left behind.

i dont think he was getting high.. i dont think it worked on him anymore
