SKL and Headliners Music presents

* L O U D *

With performers:

Beet and Bad Lieutenant
Zeropoint Records, Cincinnati, OH

bnb1.jpg

Known most prominently for co-founding and producing the nationally known live five man drum and bass phenom Twilightsleep, and recently the two man live PA, Voigt-Kampff, these two veteran producers have begun to perk the ears of national and international dj’s, labels, and producers with their latest brand of live, dark, rolling drum and bass.

Having been working, performing, and producing together for over 10 years, Beet and Bad Lieutenant are no strangers to the breakbeat. In January 2002, the two (as Voigt-Kampff) found themselves on tour with Biotic/xxx records figureheads Facs and B Key. They have since amazed club goers and party attendees alike with their live and aggressive musical performances, thanks in part to the backing of some of the area's best musicians. So contagious is their live performance that they have been known at times to virtually upstage other headliners.

With their unique brand of live drum and bass making waves stateside, the two have taken a back-to-basics approach to the recording process for their highly anticipated 5-track CD EP slated for release early 2004. Drawing upon their profiecency with varied musical instruments, such as guitar, bass, percussion, drums, and keyboards to emulate electronically-based music, the EP is a representation of their signature style of sequenced and live production.

To achieve this symbiosis of live and sequenced music in a performance setting, Beet and Bad Lieutenant have been backed by members of their Replicant Ensemble since 1998. Masters of the craft of conducting and producing their live performances, they bring a refreshing, edgy, and invigorating dimension to the status quo.

Atomly (live)

Chicago, IL
atomly.jpg

Atomly hails from the great white wilderness of North Dakota and his Viking-like stature reminds you of his hearty root. Moving from Minot to Fargo to Minneapolis to Chicago, the 24 year-old producer spent over a decade soaking up the diverse and rough-edged Midwest party scene. You can hear it in his amazingly diverse live sets, which move from groovy minimal techno to seismic drum’n’bass and full throttle breakcore.

A dedicated programming geek, Atomly was one of the first producers to make the move from gear to laptop performances, composing tracks amidst a matrix of ones and zeros. But technique has little to do with the powerful sound that comes from his tiny computer (dwarfed even further by his 6’8” frame).

He has appeared across the US as well as having logged several European tours and has performed with cutting edge artists as diverse as Brothomstates (Warp), Venetian Snares (Planet Mu), Sutekh (Force Inc.) and L’usine (Ghostly International). His music and remixes have appeared on his own Atomiq Records as well as releases from domestic drum and bass label Fear and New York avant-electronic imprint, Carpark.

“Atomy hits the bull's eye with this unlikely menage-a-trois of Marumari melodic parts, a loop of Canadian goose honks and a spot-on two-step shuffle.”

The Free Agent
Deep Blue Productions, Louisville, KY
Birthday Set! Happy Birthday Alex!
From smooth rollers to storming beats and bass, the Free Agent has it covered. Combining up-front track selection with slick mixing and blending skills, the Free Agent can represent for any occasion from house party to club night to main stage at the biggest of festivals.

What makes the Free Agent's sets so unique? Besides dropping the most upfront drum and bass around, including exclusive material and his own productions, the Free Agent prides himself on being a DJ in the truest sense of the word. He says that "beat matching is just one element - tuning, crowd-reading, and programming are just as essential." And on selection:"It is important to me to play the right music for the right occasion," he says. "If that means building up from dub, injecting some house, or just laying down the original documents of funk and soul, then let's do it!"
